After an unexpected hospital stay, Tyla managed to make a delayed appearance at the 2024 Cannes Lions Festival.

“I went to the hospital and came back,” the 22-year-old pop star told a full house at Spotify Beach on the city’s famous Croisette on Tuesday evening.

“A lot has happened, but I’m here and I’m going to have fun with you,” she continued. “The energy is incredible.”

“I got nail glue in my eye and rushed to the hospital to have it removed,” she revealed on Instagram, adding that she also had “some voice issues.”

Tyla – who took the stage in a skin-tight strappy bodysuit and a miniskirt – revealed the reason for her medical emergency in a subsequent Instagram Story post.

“I got nail glue in my eye and rushed to the hospital to have it removed,” she wrote, adding that she also had “some voice issues.”

Despite the mishaps, the singer was confident in her performance. “But she still proved herself,” she added. “I’m back and better.”

The South African-born singer, who rose to fame last year with the success of her Grammy-winning single “Water,” said she saw “a few familiar faces” in the audience and was excited to put on a show for them.

“So, we’re having a party tonight, OK?” she told the audience of media, marketing and advertising professionals gathered for the week-long celebration in the south of France.

Tyla sang a handful of songs from her self-titled debut album. At one point in her lively performance – which featured six dancers, to whom she performed an intense step-by-step choreography – the entertainer admitted that she hadn’t been on stage “in a while.”

Tyla canceled her first-ever headlining tour in March, citing the ongoing effects of an injury.

“While I would have preferred to discuss this privately, it is important to me that I share what I have to say with you today. For the past year, I have suffered silently from an injury that has tragically worsened,” she wrote on social media at the time.

“I went to see doctors and specialists full of hope, but the pain has only become more excruciating and the situation has become more serious.”

Towards the end of her Spotify Beach spectacle in Cannes, Tyla thanked the visitors for their patience.

“You guys are amazing, thank you for waiting!” she said before blowing kisses and walking off the stage. “I love you forever and ever and ever and ever.”

“Tyla” was to be the grand finale of the evening, which also featured “Beautiful Things” singer Benson Boone and “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” singer Shaboozey.

However, DJ Martin Garrix unexpectedly appeared to play between Shaboozey and Tyla, as the part of the concert with Tyla seemed to have stalled.

A day earlier, Tyla had canceled her previously announced participation in a Spotify Beach panel with TikToker Jake Shane, aka @octopusslover8, and the company’s PR manager Erin Styles due to travel delays.

She was replaced by Brad Ross, vice president of global sports and marketing at The Coca-Cola Company.
