Michigan Football expected to sign IMG Academy RB Donovan Johnson

Michigan Football expected to sign IMG Academy RB Donovan Johnson

Michigan’s football team has already signed a running back for the class of 2025 in three-star player Jasper Parker. But it seems like the maize blues are close to signing another one.

Many schools were interested in Jordon Davison, the 2025 four-star prospect from Mater Dei in Santa Ana, California, including Michigan. But the Wolverines also hosted Donovan Johnson, the four-star tailback from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, last week.

Apparently Michigan has made a big move with Johnson, as there are now several predictions suggesting he will ultimately opt for a helmet with wings. The predictions were backed up by Tony Alford’s tweet with an eye emoji on Saturday afternoon.

Johnson received a 247Sports Crystal Ball from Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider and three predictions on On3 from EJ Holland, Steve Wiltfong and Chad Simmons.

Here you can see Johnson’s rating according to the recruiting services.

Johnson was ranked higher but fell in the rankings after missing his entire junior season with a knee injury. He was once ranked 46th overall, according to 247Sports.

His scouting report according to On3:

Physically gifted running back with an outstanding combination of size and speed. Measured at 6’1″ and 200 pounds prior to his junior season. Is a Combine-level athlete. Has a track and field background dating back to the minors and has run in national AAU events. Began his career at Calvary Day in Savannah, Georgia before transferring to IMG Academy prior to his junior season. Has shown glimpses of his elite athleticism on the field. A slashing, explosive runner with palpable momentum. Has the speed to break away in open space. Has the strength and size to break through arm tackles. Out-rebounds defenders. Has not played much meaningful football since transferring to IMG, making his evaluation ambiguous. Made limited appearances as a sophomore and has yet to play a game midway through his junior season. Needs to get back on the field to continue to develop and demonstrate his value.

He also had offers from Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas A&M, USC and others.
