The Mindy Project Fans may get the series finale they’ve always wanted!

Chris Messina, who plays Danny Castellano in the sitcom, spoke to ET at the 2017 American Cinematheque Awards about the upcoming final episode of the popular Hulu show.

When asked if Mindy Lahiri (Mindy Kaling) and Danny will finally get back together and come to terms, he replied, “I don’t want to give anything away, but I think it’s a satisfying ending and I don’t want to give anything away, but I hope you like it… I hope they love it. When I read the script, I thought it was a really clever way to end the show, and these guys are the best. Great writers, great actors, I’m going to miss them.”

The 43-year-old actor also admitted that his character has some flaws. “He was a jerk at times and I understand people are mad, but I like that he was a jerk because we’re jerks sometimes,” he joked. “We’re doing the best we can and I think he’s learned some lessons and hopefully they’ll be happy with the new him – but we’ll see.”

Review of six seasons of The Mindy Project, Messina explained what initially attracted him to the role of the rough-and-tumble doctor.

“The script was incredible. I loved what they wrote for me, but I think going to work every day and laughing was… what a gift,” he praised the show, adding, “And to be face to face with Mindy and Ike (Barinholtz) and Ed (Weeks) and Beth (Grant) and Xosha (Roquemore), it’s just incredible.”

The Mindy Project The series finale, “It Had to Be You,” airs Tuesday on Hulu.
