Barça Games is here, the world’s first video game platform developed by a sports club

In November 2023, FC Barcelona announced the imminent launch of Barça Games, the world’s first video game platform developed by a sports club. On Wednesday, July 24, the new platform finally arrived, the result of a collaboration between the club, Mas Ros Media and FiReSPORTS. The launch is part of the club’s clear commitment to create digital entertainment content and reach new audiences and new generations.

The opening of the Barça Games took place at the Auditori 1899, on FC Barcelona’s premises, and was also broadcast live on Barça One. In attendance were FC Barcelona President Joan Laporta, Barça Vision Director and the club’s General Director for APAC and Americas Bryan Bachner, as well as other FC Barcelona representatives, as well as Marcelo Liberini, General Director of FOC Games, Marcos Santana, Founder of Mas Ros Media, and Rodrigo Figueroa Reyes, Founder and CEO of FiReSPORT.

In his welcoming speech, Laporta stressed that the creation of Barça Games is “part of the club’s clear commitment to the digital space, which is so important for our future strategy… last April the club’s new streaming platform, Barça One, was presented and today, three months later, we are launching Barça Games… Our goal is to continue to lead in the face of new opportunities and to advance the construction of the Barça digital space, uniting all our fans around the world in the same digital community and also strengthening their sense of belonging to FC Barcelona.”

For his part, Bachner spoke about the growth that the entertainment industry has experienced in recent years and the enormous expectations placed on everything in this field. “We are very proud to welcome the Barça Games platform as another project within Barça Vision,” he said. “It is based on a joint venture that will foster a more vibrant and engaged digital community around the club.”

Virtual Masia for Culer gamers

Presented in app format and now available for iOS and Android devices, the platform combines traditional sports with gaming. Users can play their favorite video games, participate in tournaments, interact with other Barça fans and much more. With the aim of turning Barça Games into the largest gaming nursery in the world, the app also features two virtual presenters, Pau and Gemma, who play a key role in discovering the best players as well as the most talented content creators.

The event also included a technical explanation of how the app works. FOC Games’ Liberini explained in detail what the user will find after downloading the app. “Users will have to complete missions to win rewards,” he said. “You will find two sections, one that is more geared towards casual players and a second one for hardcore users that includes official Barça Games tournaments.” The launch ended with a live sample recording of what a Rocket League game looks like in the Barça Games app.
