The sequel series “Wizards of Waverly Place” confirms the return of another star

Another member of the Russo family returns for Wizards Beyond Waverly PlaceDavid Henrie, who is set to direct the new Disney Channel show, has confirmed that another original cast member will be joining the Wizards of Waverly Place Sequel series.



In an interview with Us Weekly, Henrie shared that David DeLuise would have an appearance in Wizards Beyond Waverly Placefirst seasonreprising his role from the original series as Jerry Russo, the father of his character Justin Russo. “It was a pleasure,” said Henrie about filming again with his TV father. “And we hope that we can all be there again for the entire run of the show, and if it’s up to me, as often as possible, because they are simply a wonderful addition.” DeLuise had already indicated that he would return for Over and beyondWaverly Squarein January together with his film wife Maria Canals-Barrera (Theresa).

Wizards of Waverly Place ran for four seasons and 106 episodes on Disney Channel between 2007 and 2012. Created by Todd J. Greenwald, the series primarily revolved around Alex Russo (played by Selena Gomez) and her siblings Justin (Henrie) and Max (Jake T. Austin), who trained as magicians as teenagers. The show was a huge success, winning major awards including two Emmys, as well as a Disney Channel Original Movie (set between seasons 2 and 3) and a television special (set after the series finale).


Wizards Beyond Waverly Place was first announced in January 2024 as simple wizardwith Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas writing the pilot. The duo already has experience working on Disney Channel legacy series and has Raven’s Homethe continuation of That’s so Raven. The pilot was filmed in February 2024 and officially ordered as a series the following month. At Disney’s upfront presentation in May 2024, Gomez – who will guest star in the pilot and executive produce – announced that the sequel series would be titled Wizards Beyond Waverly Place.

What is Wizards Beyond Waverly Place about?

Wizards Beyond Waverly Place begins with adult Justin Russo doing his best to live a normal family life with his wife Giada (Mimi Gianopulos) and children Roman (Alkaio Thiele) and Milo (Max Matenko). But according to the official synopsis, “When Justin’s sister Alex brings (young wizard) Billie (Janie LeAnn Brown) home and asks for help, Justin realizes he must brush up on his magical skills to mentor the wizard-in-training while also managing his everyday duties – and securing the future of the wizarding world.”

Although Justin was able to retain his magical powers in the end Wizards of Waverly Place, although Alex has been appointed family wizard, he will no longer have her by that time Over and beyond begins. Henrie told Us Weekly that fans will have to tune in to find out how Justin lost his powers, as it “may or may not have been against his will.” The actor also shared that the Fans should not worry that Over and beyond won’t feel like the original seriesand explained: “It feels like the themes, the values, the world, the comedy. That is wizard.”

Wizards Beyond Waverly Place will premiere on Disney Channel and Disney+ in late 2024.
