Author dedicates book to Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift, who inspired her story

Author Anne-Marie Meyer has written 63 books, so it should come as no surprise that she rarely runs out of topics for her romance novels.

Thanks to social media, Meyer discovered what her fans were looking for and came up with the idea for her book, Lucky Charm.

The inspiration for the book comes from the romance of Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce with international singing star Taylor Swift. Meyer dedicated the book to the world-famous couple.

“I’m a member of the Book Talk community on TikTok,” Meyer said in a phone interview. “When Taylor and Travis announced their relationship, so many readers everywhere were saying, ‘I need a romance between a football player and a singer. I need that. Does anyone have any books that are like that?’ And so no one really had a book that focused on a singer and a football player. And so I decided to write the book.

“It’s inspired by the relationship, so it’s obviously not them. But it’s a football player and an aspiring singer who had a relationship. And I put little anecdotes in the book that are similar to Travis and Taylor.”

Meyer has published several books on the USA Today bestseller list, but don’t expect any hot details about the characters in her stories. The genre of her books is categorized as “sweet and clean romance.”

This also means little swearing or gratuitous violence.

“People have commented that they think Taylor would really like this book, in terms of how I approached it, you know, rather than going into territory that they thought she wouldn’t like,” Meyer said. “So it made me feel good that they said she would really like it. And I thought, that’s great. That’s my hope, I wanted it to be inspired by them, but also be a feel-good, uplifting, heartwarming story.”

Although Lucky Charm isn’t about an NFL tight end courting and winning the heart of a superstar singer, the DNA of Kelce and Swift’s romance is evident in the book.

The novel is set in Nashville, where Swift moved as a teenager and began her musical career. The character in the book is unknown, which is a big difference between Lucky Charm and the romance between Kelce and Swift.

“She’s not really discovered yet, and he plays for a fictional team in Tennessee called the Tennessee Tigers,” Meyer said. “Obviously, for copyright reasons, I can’t use the real Tennessee team. So she’s there to try to get discovered, he’s there because he’s playing. She’s subletting an apartment across the street from him. They knew each other in high school and now, as adults, they’re forced to get back together.

“They fake a relationship in the book to help her get discovered. And so I take some of the rumors and stuff between Taylor and Travis and make fun of it in the book. There’s a point where they say, yeah, for the NFL, a football player and an aspiring singer would be great content. Stuff like that. I joke a little bit in the book, like today, where people say, ‘Oh, that’s a rumor, that it’s actually a fake relationship to sell tickets to football games.’ And so I mentioned those kinds of things in the book. I just make fun of people’s conspiracy theories.”

Meyer, 37, said one of her other books is being made into a movie and is set to hit theaters later this year. She has been listening to Swift’s music for nearly two decades.

Kelce, on the other hand, was an unknown to Meyer. But she was happy that fans were clamoring for a romance novel about the Chiefs star’s relationship with Swift.

“I based her story on that,” Meyer said. “So there are a lot of other tropes in the story that obviously don’t involve Taylor and Travis, but that have that as the basis of their story. And there are a lot of football scenes and a lot of singing scenes that go into the story.”

You can order the book on Meyer’s website or through online book sales sites.
