Summary

  • Eloise’s future in Bridgerton could shift from the books to the series, which could also lead to possible changes in their love story.
  • The possible change of Eloise’s marriage to Phillip Crane in the series might make sense because of problematic elements in the book.
  • Bridgerton could also choose to leave Eloise alone, or she could fall in love with someone who is not a man.

Eloise could be with a person in Bridgerton books, but it is possible that the series will change course. In the Netflix series, Eloise constantly expresses disinterest in courtship and marriage. There is a brief moment in season 2 when she thinks she might take care of a working-class boy named Theo Sharpe, but Bridgerton quickly drops the idea as soon as it is introduced. At the end of the third season, Eloise heads to Scotland with Francesca, her new husband John Stirling, and John’s cousin Michaela.

Eloise is not settling down anytime soon. She wants to change the world and feels she needs to see it first to do that. But all eight Bridgerton siblings have their own love interests at some point, including Eloise. While her counterpart in the book also has no interest in marriage, she finds true love in her own way and on her terms. Although the books portray Eloise in The Duke and I, their romance takes place in To Sir Phillip, with love.

Everything about her husband Sir Phillip Crane in the books

In To Sir Phillip, with love, Eloise marries botanist Phillip Crane who grows up with an abusive father. Phillip is very close to his older brother George until George dies unexpectedly and Phillip inherits the Cranes’ titles, wealth and possessions. This inheritance includes the engagement agreement between George and Marina Thompson, a distant cousin of the Bridgertons. Phillip reluctantly runs the Cranes’ estate as his true passion is botany. With Marina he has two children, twins named Amanda and Oliver.

After giving birth, Marina struggles with postnatal depression and attempts to take her own life by jumping into an ice-cold lake. Phillip tries to save Marina, but she contracts an illness that eventually kills her. When Eloise expresses her condolences, she and Phillip begin to correspond although they have never met in person. He asks for her hand in marriage and although she is surprised, she decides to meet him. Eventually, their relationship develops into a true romance.

Eloise and Phillip have three children together: Penelope, Georgiana and Frederick.

Why the end of Eloise’s Bridgerton books is so hard for the series

The show has already introduced Marina and Phillip

Marina Crane keeps her child with Bridgerton

In Bridgerton In Season 1, Marina is introduced as a distant cousin of the Featheringtons rather than the Bridgertons. Because of this change, the closest connection between Eloise and Marina in the series is their mutual friendship with Penelope and Marina’s brief engagement to Eloise’s brother Colin. In BridgertonIn the current timeline of The Return of the Twins, Marina is still living quite happily with the twins and Phillip, although their relationship is not romantic. Even if Marina were to die in the series, It is hard to imagine Eloise contacting Phillip and the two come together in the same way as in the books.

It’s also worth remembering that there are some pretty serious problems with Phillip and Marina’s relationship and its portrayal in the books. For one, it could be argued that the novel demonizes Marina’s struggle with depression and the impact this has on her childcare. In the book, Phillip is also violent and neglectful of the twins, and there’s even a passage where Phillip raped Marina.

Because of this, Bridgerton faces the challenge of making Phillip a character that audiences will loveEloise’s personality is also much stronger in the series and she would not settle for a violent man who does not care for his children.

Could Bridgerton Change Eloise’s story?

What Julia Quinn has to say and how the show can change Eloise’s ending

It is worth remembering that Bridgerton could significantly change Eloise’s romance with Phillip or even give it up altogether. In an interview with CosmopolitanSpainQuinn stressed that she “not part of the writing process of the series.“Quinn is”only one consultant” and sees “the scripts when they are finished.”

Quinn further clarified: “these types of changes are your responsibility.” However, Bridgerton hasn’t changed anything fundamental about the romances so far. The series has changed the sibling order and changed Michael Stirling to Michaela Stirling, but the core of each romance has remained the same.

It is possible that the series will take the same approach with Eloise and Phillip and simply change the circumstances in which they come together. Since Marina and Phillip are not really in love, the series would ideally introduce a divorce, a possible concept because Bridgerton is already a fantasy Regency series. This could give Marina a happy ending, rather than a tragic one like in the books. The series also hasn’t shown much of Phillip’s problematic behavior from the books and could choose to leave it out.

Of course it is also possible Bridgerton eliminates the relationship between Eloise and Phillip entirely, leaving him off-screen and relatively content with Marina and the twins. Considering Eloise’s decision at the end of season three, It is possible that she remains unmarried or falling in love with someone who is not a man, perhaps in Scotland. Bridgerton Since it has not yet been confirmed which character will be the focus of Season 4, viewers will have to wait a little longer to see how the series adapts Eloise’s future.
