Four-star center Xavion Staton joins Michigan Basketball’s “Top 6”

Four-star center Xavion Staton joins Michigan Basketball’s “Top 6”

After trading away nearly the entire Michigan roster this offseason, men’s basketball head coach Dusty May and his new staff in Ann Arbor are working hard to prepare for the future.

The Wolverines are still looking for their first verbal commitment for the 2025 recruiting cycle, but have landed two of their top targets in the class. On Tuesday, Michigan named four-star center Sierra Vista in the “top six” of Las Vegas (Nev.). Xavion Statonwho listed the Wolverines in his final group alongside Arizona, USC, UNLV, Stanford and BYU. This came just days after Michigan made the five-star point guard from IMG Academy out of Bradenton, Florida, into the “top three.” Darius Acuff Fr.which also considers Arkansas and Kansas.

“They’re one of the programs that have shown nonstop support, Dusty May and coach (Justin) Joyner have come to a lot of my games,” Staton told 247Sports of Michigan. “Most recently, the last live period in Indianapolis, they were at every single game.”

According to the 247Sports Composite, Staton is considered the No. 33 overall prospect, No. 3 center and No. 1 player from Nevada in the class of 2025. The 6-foot-1, 215-pound player has received over 30 scholarship offers during his recruitment. In addition to his finalists, Staton has also received offers from Xavier, Illinois, Iowa, Creighton, Auburn, Texas, Kansas, UCLA and Ohio State, among others. Last year, he was named the 2023-24 Nevada Gatorade Player of the Year.

Here’s what Jamie Shaw of On3 had to say about Staton:

“The standout element of Xavion Staton’s game is his defensive ability. He is an excellent blocker with natural feel. He has very long arms with high shoulders, great stance reach and a quick shot. He has an intimidating factor over the course of a game. On offense, Staton needs reps to continue to work on his feel for the game. He is a big dunker spot right now playing in front of the basket. He is listed as a true 7-footer and has natural feel beyond the arc, but he needs the reps to work on balance, feet and loading. He has some unique defensive skills, possibly being the best basket protector in his class. That will keep him high in the rankings and get him a lot of notoriety. He plays with a good motor and generally impacts the game when he is in the game.”

Staton is in the process of arranging official visits to his favorite schools and hopes to make his college decision in October.
