A decade of faith, love and growth

My tenth year as pastor of Camp Ground/Rutledge Global Methodist Church will be coming to an end in June. Brandy and I are grateful as we reflect on this momentous journey. Here are some important lessons I have learned during these years:

* Hold on to your calling, especially in the most difficult times.

* Value and nurture your marriage because it is crucial to your well-being.

* Stay rooted in the Word and draw strength from regular Bible study.

* Commit to lifelong learning through reading, conferences and mentoring.

* Care for your community with love and compassion.

* Keep a positive attitude and don’t take things personally.

* Trust in God’s guidance for your ministry, your family and your church.

* Devote the time and effort necessary to excel in your work.

* Stay humble and grateful even when you succeed.

* Lead authentically and reflect your faith in Christ.

* Be there for your people.

* Be trustworthy.

* Have compassion.

* Be adaptable. You are not always right.

* Be a good listener.

* Be a pastor.

* Be a friend to the rich and the poor and show no bias.

* Address problems promptly instead of ignoring them.

* Remember that giving up is not an option when God is calling you.

* Learn from mistakes and forgive others.

* View people who complain as fellow believers, not as enemies.

* Take responsibility for all outcomes, positive or negative.

* Make decisions considering the long-term impact on the common good.

* Loyalty takes precedence over popularity.

* Develop a strategic approach to social media and maintain consistency.

* Publicly express appreciation and encouragement to those around you.

* Reflect on your journey and express gratitude for what you learned.

* Enjoy every single moment.

* Spend time with God worshiping Him.

* Pray, pray, pray.

* Remain in love with God.

I look forward to our 11th year, which begins July 1st, and am optimistic about the future, knowing the best is yet to come. Amidst the changes and constants, these invaluable lessons will continue to guide me on the path to growth and perfection. And best of all, God is with us!
