The Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset presented the 8th Annual Vocational Service Awards to an individual, nonprofit organization and local business. These honorees were selected for their integrity through high ethical conduct, which is the foundation of Rotary. The honorees provide a guide for ethical conduct in the workplace and other areas of life. This award is presented annually to three entities that provide outstanding service to our community and/or club. The honorees truly embody the Rotary philosophy of “Selfless Service”.

Arvinder and Manjeet Surdhar received the Individual Vocational Service Award. This couple was the donor of nine Starlink devices that were deployed and operated by members of the Rotary Club less than a week after the August 8 fires. The devices immediately provided invaluable service to the Lahaina community. The devices are still operational and are being used in various locations to assist survivors of the fires.

Napili Noho Hub received the Non-Profit Vocational Service Award. This center was operational within the first 24 hours after the fires. Since data collection on 8/18/24, it has made 38,274 visits to families affected by the fires, distributing donations totaling over $4 million in donated goods and services. Director Melonee Lujan accepted the award.

Mana Visual Maui was the recipient of the Business Vocational Service Award. Accepting the award was Jason Lucero, the sole owner of this business. Jason created and installed weatherproof images of the deceased to personalize each of the memorial crosses along the Lahaina Bypass Memorial. To date, over 60 images have been completed and installed at no cost to the families.

The Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset is one of ten Rotary clubs on Maui. Rotary is a leadership organization comprised of local business, professional and community leaders. Club members meet regularly to get to know each other, form friendships and make things happen in our community. The club offers in-person and hybrid meetings on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month at the Aston Paki Maui Resort Ali`i Meeting Room in Honokowai.
