Nu-metal songs that fans would recommend to their future child

How would you introduce your child to nu-metal and which song would you choose?

Many who grew up listening to nu metal are now parents, and the music that was popular in their youth is making a comeback. So what songs would you choose to get your child into nu metal? That’s a current discussion currently taking place in the nu metal Reddit community, with some well-known bands and songs popping up regularly.

Welcome to nu metal!

While the thread gets more and more specific in naming songs, bands, and even albums, there are those who made some overarching comments on the idea of sharing nu-metal with their offspring.

“My child would never (ask),” said one person. “It’s in their DNA. They would hear it from the womb to adulthood. They would be taught by the grown-ups and respect the fathers. They would teach, not ask.”

Another added: “My daughter is 4 months old and already listens to nu metal and pop punk and we sing along with her. Sometimes she falls asleep!!”

Which bands were the most popular for introducing kids to nu metal?

So far, two bands seem to be mentioned much more often in this thread than any other. They are Linkin Park and Korn, both bands that have previously been highly recommended by nu-metal Reddit participants as part of the genre’s “Big 4.”

Regarding Linkin Park, one fan said: “I would show them Linkin Park. It’s like a rite of passage.” Another added: “If anyone ever needs to hear their first nu-metal album, the only right answer is Hybrid theory. It’s a masterpiece that perfectly describes the genre from the first to the last song!”

Speaking of which, another fan recalled: “Just like my dad showed me over 20 years ago. … Hybrid theory was my introduction to rap and metal.”

But which Linkin Park song would you use to introduce your child to nu metal? There was no clear winner here, with “One Step Closer,” “In the End,” and “Papercut” all getting multiple mentions.

Linkin Park, “Papercut”

The other band that was mentioned in particular in the discussion was Korn. “You don’t even have to ask. They’ll be rocking to Korn and Bizkit from birth,” one fan replied.

Much like Linkin Park, Korn’s incredible run in the ’90s and early 2000s offered plenty of options for songs. “I’m going to ask, ‘Are you ready?’ and then you all know my answer,” one fan noted, voting for “Blind.”

“Falling Away From Me” was a popular choice, and one fan recalled: “When the Problems The album came out, the tour was awesome and they opened with that song… still one of the best openers of all time.”
