Kamala Harris gets permission to use Beyoncé’s song “Freedom” for her presidential campaign | English film news

Vice President Kamala Harris made a memorable appearance during her first official visit to her campaign headquarters on Monday night (July 23), performing to Beyoncé’s powerful anthem “Freedom.” According to CNN, Harris’ team received approval from Beyoncé’s representatives to use the song for her presidential campaign. Although Beyoncé is known to have strict release policies for her music, she promptly approved Harris’ request on Monday, just hours before the event.

Although Beyoncé has not officially endorsed Harris following President Joe Biden’s announcement that he will not seek a second term, allowing the use of “Freedom” suggests significant support from the sensational singer. Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles, publicly endorsed Harris on July 22, shortly after Biden’s announcement. Knowles shared her views on Instagram, posting a photo of herself with Harris and expressing her admiration for the vice president’s energy and leadership. She wrote, “New, youthful, sharp energy!!!! You asked for it and our President Biden did what was best for the country! He put aside his personal ego, power and fame. That is the definition of a great leader. Thank you President Biden for your service and leadership. Keep up the good work Vice President Kamala Harris for President. Here we go ❤️❤️❤️❤️ #kamala2024.”

Beyoncé has long supported Democratic candidates. She sang the national anthem at President Barack Obama’s inauguration in 2013 and headlined a primary concert for Hillary Clinton in Cleveland, Ohio, in 2016 with her husband Jay-Z. At the event, her backup dancers wore blue pantsuits, reflecting Clinton’s iconic style and symbolizing the historic opportunity to elect the first female president. Beyoncé emphasized the importance of female leadership, sharing her hope that her daughter could see a woman lead the nation and believe in endless possibilities. In 2020, Beyoncé ran for the Biden-Harris ticket and used her Instagram platform to encourage her followers to vote.

The song “Freedom” featuring Kendrick Lamar was released on Beyoncé’s 2016 album “Lemonade”. It was created as a protest anthem following the death of George Floyd in 2020. On July 23, Kamala Harris left the hall during a visit to her campaign headquarters singing these moving lyrics: “Freedom, freedom / Where are you? / ‘Cause I need freedom too / I break chains all alone / I won’t let my freedom rot in hell / Hey! I keep running / ‘Cause a winner don’t quit.”
