Following Huntley’s death, the Nonviolence Institute appoints a new ED

PROVIDENCE, RI (WLNE) — The Nonviolence Institute has appointed a new executive director.

The nonprofit announced on Facebook that Lisa Pina-Warren would succeed Keith Morton, who served as interim director.

Former Nonviolence Institute Cedric Huntley served as executive director of the Nonviolence Institute for three years.

He died two weeks ago at the age of 65.

Pina-Warren currently serves as the Director of Intervention Services.

She joined the Nonviolence Institute as a trainer in 2009 and has held various positions of increased leadership and responsibility within the organization.

Pina-Warren is a member of the Cities Pathway to End Gun Violence Advisory Council and is certified as a homicide specialist by the National Advocate Credentialing Program.

She holds specialized certifications in case management, mediation, victim advocacy, and community service practice from Tufts University, Salve Regina University, and other organizations and is currently attending College Unbound.

She was recently selected for the 2024 Neil J. Houston Jr. Memorial Award presented by Justice Assistance and received the 2023 Wanita M. Osborne Lifetime Achievement Award from the Music One Family.

In a statement, board co-chairman Seth Handy said:

In these difficult times, the need for NVI’s services is greater than ever, and Lisa has tirelessly and compassionately made nonviolence her life’s work. She is a dedicated, passionate, and inspiring leader, and we look forward to her leadership in helping us fulfill our mission by teaching the principles and practices of nonviolence.”
