The Boys showrunner reveals the original comic book writer’s only wish

The Boys showrunner reveals the original comic book writer’s only wish

The young is not a completely faithful adaptation of the original comics, as some detours were made with the source material. However, there is one rule that the showrunner of the series has adhered to at the request of the comic book author.

The original comic book series was co-created by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. Eric Kripke created the TV series adaptation for Prime Video and talked about some of the changes in a new interview with Variety. He said he told Ennis at the beginning that he was trying to hit the same tone, but there would be some differences from the series. Ennis was completely fine with that, because his main concern was “getting Butcher right.”

“We wouldn’t have done it anyway”: The Boys showrunner reveals Amazon’s only wish for season 4

Erik Kripke reveals the only vulgar scene Amazon asked him to tone down for season four of ‘The Boys.’

“The comic itself is really episodic,” Kripke said. “I always said it would work really well on a CBS rated X. It basically works like a procedural where every second or third issue is its own story, and then it goes on and there’s not an incredible amount of build-up. And look, the need for streaming, especially at that time, was I needed a story that lasted eight hours. And that was simply missing from the books.”

“And you see, streaming was necessary at that time because I needed a story that was eight hours long. And the books just didn’t have that.”

He added: “So I knew it from the beginning, so my attack was, I said to Garth Ennis, “I want to get the characters and tone right, but is it okay with you if the story isn’t the same?” And he was great. He totally got it. It’s funny, what he always says to me is: “Just understand Butcher properly.”

The Boys showrunner tells the story behind Butcher’s crude photo

The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke reveals who was really in the clumsy photo Billy Butcher sent.

The character Billy Butcher is played by Karl Urban in the Prime Video series. When translating, it was important to Ennis that the spirit of Butcher was preserved. As Kripke explained, this even means that Ennis has to personally adapt Butcher’s dialogue in the show. Kripke, for his part, is happy for the help, as he knows that Ennis understands the character better than anyone else.

Garth Ennis has strong opinions about Billy Butcher

Butcher is a character that is very close to his heartsaid Kripke. “Almost exclusively his notes are for Butcher and Butcher’s dialogue, which is great – he’s from Ireland and has a much better sense of what someone from East London would sound like than I do. So I’m more than happy. Garth actually makes a lot of dialogue adjustments to Butcher.”

The young is streaming on Prime Video.
