Bollywood’s legendary villain Prem Chopra, best known for his unforgettable dialogue in Bobby – “Prem naam hai mera, Prem Chopra” – recently shared a funny story with Bollywood Bubble about his train journey. Fans at every station forced the bullet train to stop and demanded him to say his famous dialogue.

The adoring crowds were treated to a live performance at every stop, proving that Prem’s villainous charm was unbeatable! “People came to know that I was on that train. Even though it was an express train, they had to stop it at every stop because there were so many people and they asked me to say this dialogue at every stop. They said the crowd would not let the train move, so please say this dialogue at every stop. This went on for the entire train journey,” recalled the veteran actor.

Prem Chopra revealed that Raj Kapoor kept him in the dark when he was offered the iconic role in Bobby. The legendary director did not reveal any details until Chopra was on the set. Despite repeatedly asking about his role, Kapoor would just say, ‘Batayenge (I will tell you).’ If asked at night, he would be drunk and say ‘arey yaar batayenge, tumhe bol diya batayenge’,” recalls Chopra.

When Prem Chopra arrived for the shoot in Pune, he found that he had only one line in the film and had doubts. “I had doubts before taking up this role. I said that I am working in films with Yash Chopra, BR Chopra and Shakti Samantha where I get the role which is as important as the lead actor. I hope I don’t get to a point where they offer me cameos too,” he said.

His best known films include Bobby (1973), Do Raaste (1969) and Kati Patang (1970). Although he often portrays antagonists, Prem Chopra’s real personality is said to be the exact opposite and is characterized by his kindness and professionalism. Over the years, he has received several awards and accolades for his contributions to Indian cinema, securing his reputation as one of Bollywood’s legendary actors.
