The A-Frame Club at Winter Park Resort, CO: A modern hotel look in the style of Skylab architecture

The A-Frame Club by Skylab Architecture is a new hotel brand that draws design elements from 1970s American ski culture and the iconic A-frame cabins of that era. The first club consists of 31 newly constructed cabins and a bar and restaurant in a historic saloon building in Winter Park, Colorado. The freestanding cabins are located on a 2-acre forest lot next to the Fraser River and are nestled among mature pines. The cabins are connected by a network of boardwalks, allowing guests to enjoy privacy and create a relaxed atmosphere after a day of skiing or mountain biking.

The cabins are each 41.8 square meters and have a living room on the ground floor, an entrance, a bathroom, a kitchenette and a bedroom in the loft. Each cabin is fitted with custom Malm fireplaces and vintage furniture. Walls are clad in warm cedar panels and custom woodwork. Each cabin sits on low piers and is slightly higher than the ground to enhance the views and slightly touch the land. Tall glass windows allow natural light to filter in and accentuate the mountain views.

The cabins are designed for adaptability. The loft bed is accessed via a ship’s ladder and the sofas in the living room fold out. Guests have control over their space, from individual keypads for self check-in to simple, automated controls for heating, cooling and lighting.

The community spirit is promoted by a central meeting place for guests and locals with almost 860 square meters of space called “The Lodge”. Food and drinks are served to guests to take away or on the patio with pergola and fire pits. There are various areas for a mix of drinking, eating, socializing and working. Decorated with a wry touch and a mid-century vibe, the Lodge is a space that is both classic and novel.

The A-Frame Club is located in a mecca for outdoor enthusiasts, just a short ride in the retro Grand Wagoneer from world-class ski resorts and incredibly close to fantastic fishing, biking and hiking.
