Maryland Governor Wes Moore not interested in possible vice presidential role: “I love my job”

BALTIMORE — Maryland Governor Wes Moore said he has “no intention” of leaving his current office amid speculation about the Democratic presidential nomination.

Moore’s name has been mentioned as a possible vice presidential candidate for Kamala Harris. The current vice president said she intends to “earn and win” the Democratic nomination for president after President Joe Biden announced he withdraws from the race.

“I’ve expressed that I love my job and have no intention of leaving it,” Moore said. “I think where (Kamala Harris) goes will be a very personal decision for her. I think she’ll have wonderful options to consider.”

Moore, who was elected Maryland’s 63rd governor in 2022, said he plans to stay in Annapolis.


“I want to remain governor of Maryland,” Moore said. “I’m excited about the momentum we’re seeing in the state of Maryland right now. I want to be the leader that helps keep that momentum moving forward. My decision to stay in Maryland is because I still have a lot of work to do.”

Moore announced his Endorsement of Harris Monday morning and said he had spoken at length with the vice president on Sunday.

“The American people deserve a champion who will continue the progress of the Biden-Harris administration, and that is why I am proud to express my full support and fully recommend Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic presidential nominee,” Moore said.

Several names have been floated as possible vice presidential candidates for Harris should she become the Democratic nominee. Moore said he has full confidence in her decision.

“I have complete confidence and am convinced that the vice president will make the right selection for her,” Moore said.

Moore said he would campaign for Harris and serve as co-chair of the Harris campaign.

Harris spoke at an event on the South Lawn of the White House on Monday and expressed her gratitude to Mr Biden.

“Every day, our President Joe Biden fights for the American people, and we are deeply grateful for his service to our nation,” Harris said.

Mr Biden, Delegates to the Maryland Democratic National Convention And former Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi also supported Harris.

The Democratic Party Convention begins on August 19, and election day is November 5.
