Interboro girls softball team competes in World Series for the first time ever: “We will win everything”

NORWOOD, Pa. (CBS) – A girls softball team from Delaware County is on its way to the Babe Ruth League World Series in Alabama.

The Interboro Bucs 10U district team is on a historic championship run. Earlier this month, the team won the Babe Ruth Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship.

The girls beat competition from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and New York to secure their ticket to the Babe Ruth League World Series in Florence, Alabama.

For the girls going to Alabama, it’s a “dream,” but two months ago that dream didn’t even exist.

“In the two months that we’ve come together, we’ve built this team, worked hard and gained some experience,” said Bucs head coach Frank Urso.

Urso has been a youth baseball and softball coach in Delco for 30 years.

But for the first time in the history of the Interboro Softball League, the girls’ team made it to the World Series. And they had no problem revealing the secret of their success.

“Commitment, hard work and keep going. Don’t stop. If you lose a game, don’t give up,” Urso said. “That doesn’t define us. We work hard.”

They also have a community of supporters who have rallied around them and raised around $30,000 in two weeks to cover travel expenses and other fees.

On Monday night, family and friends celebrated with a farewell event in Norwood before the players and coaches fly to Alabama, where they will battle through an 11-team championship round.

“We will win everything,” said Urso. “We will win everything.”

Urso’s girls firmly believe they are the best and they are ready to bring a national trophy home to Delco.
