Suspect killed after allegedly attempting to attack police officers with his vehicle

A suspect was killed after police say he attempted to attack officers with his vehicle. According to the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred in a business parking lot in Conover.

Today (July 22) at approximately 6:00 p.m., members of the Catawba County Special Tactics and Response (STAR) team attempted to arrest a suspect wanted in connection with several felonies and misdemeanors committed in Catawba County.

During the attempt, this suspect refused to comply with orders to exit his vehicle. The suspect then reportedly rammed several police vehicles and a private vehicle to evade arrest. This suspect was then shot by STAR members as he approached other police officers in his vehicle. This incident occurred in a parking lot of Elite Comfort Solutions located at 1115 Farrington Street SW in Conover.

The suspect was wanted for second-degree kidnapping, common law robbery, theft and petty theft, Threats and damage to personal property. He also had an outstanding domestic violence protection order that officers attempted to enforce. This suspect was also out on bail after being charged with murder in a separate incident.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (NCSBI) has opened an investigation into the incident. The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office and other involved law enforcement agencies are fully cooperating with this investigation. The suspect’s name is being withheld until next of kin can be notified.
