St. John’s forward Glenn Taylor Jr. joins Oklahoma after returning in June

Each of St. John’s basketball graduates found a place to land on Monday. At least for now.

Joe Tipton of On3 reports that Glenn Taylor, Jr., who transferred from St. John’s, has joined Oklahoma.

Taylor originally entered the transfer portal on April 2, in what was considered an “amicable separation” between the junior striker and the St. John’s coaching staff. In his official announcement post on Twitter, he wrote wrote that he was “in open communication” with the Red Storm coaching staff and was considering the possibility of returning to Queens for his final season.

After other universities such as Oklahoma State and Memphis drew interest, Taylor committed to up-and-coming mid-major team Grand Canyon in late May. Still, his time as an Antelope lasted just two weeks, as he re-entered the transfer portal on June 3. Over a month later, Taylor is back on a power conference team.

Taylor was part of Rick Pitino’s 10-man transfer class in the spring of 2023 and transferred to St. John’s after being a regular starter for Oregon State in his first two college seasons.

The Las Vegas native struggled to find consistency on St. John’s crowded roster. In his lone season with the Red Storm, Taylor started 21 times in 33 games and averaged 4.4 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.2 assists while shooting 44.9% from the field and 42.4% from the three-point line.

Although Glenn Taylor Jr. struggled with inconsistency throughout the season, he had his moments as Johnny.

On Feb. 25, Taylor was primarily responsible for holding Baylor Scheierman to 12 points on 4-of-16 shooting in an 80-66 win over No. 15 Creighton that St. John’s desperately needed to get back on the tournament bubble. In his next game on Feb. 28, Taylor scored a season-high 17 points and sank five three-pointers in an 82-59 win over Butler at Hinkle Fieldhouse.

Taylor is the third St. John’s basketball player to transfer this offseason. Earlier this summer, forward Drissa Traore left for Rhode Island and Cruz Davis went to Hofstra.
