Maura Tierney (ER, Twisters, Rescue Me) has joined the cast of Season 24 of NBC’s Law & Order, which returns Thursday, October 3.

NBC and Dick Wolf‘S law and order has undergone some serious casting transfers this year (not counting last year’s transfers), with Sam Waterston Resignation of DA Jack McCoy and Tony Goldwyn (scandal) as DA Nicholas Baxter. After that Camryn Manheim‘S (The practice) Lt. Kate Dixon left the series at the end of the last season – and now TVLine reports exclusively that Maura Tierney (ER, Twisters, Save Me) has joined the cast of the series in a recurring role starting in season 24. Although there are rumors that Tierney’s character is a new lieutenant, no confirmed details have been released – the long-running series returns to air on NBC on Thursday, October 3.

“It’s sad to see me leave, but I’m just too curious to see what’s next. An actor doesn’t want to get too comfortable. I’m more grateful to you than I can say. L&O’s sustained and amazing long run, as well as its amazing comeback, is thanks to you and Dick Wolf, but none of this would have happened without the latter’s vision, patience, perseverance and unique combination of creative and business talents. I feel very blessed. I hope to see you all on the other side,” Waterston shared in a statement when it was first announced he would be leaving the series after more than 400 episodes – with the opening episode of Season 5, “Second Opinion” (1994), marking the character’s debut.
