Sandy Posey, “Single Girl” singer from the 1960s, died at the age of 80 after battling dementia

Sandra Posey – who enjoyed great success with her music career in the ’60s – has died … TMZ has learned.

The husband of the late pop singer, Wade Cumminstells us that his wife died Saturday morning in their Tennessee home – from the effects of dementia, we were told.

Wade tells us that Sandy had been battling dementia for some time and that her condition had been slowly declining over the past seven years. Other than that, he says, she had been relatively healthy… with no problems like high blood pressure or other organ problems.

We also learn that Wade was at Sandy’s bedside when she died…along with her daughter Amy and her niece. Wade says he cared for her in her final years, but is understandably heartbroken – she was the love of his life and he misses her deeply.

Wade acknowledges her close relationship with God and says it is a comfort to him to know that Sandy is now with Jesus. He also mentions that Sandy had millions of fans around the world… and the overwhelming support from them was also very comforting.

The family will hold a celebration to honor her life at some point, but the family has not set an official date. Wade says he plans to film the event live for Facebook so her fans can join in…we’re also told Sandy will be cremated.

Sandy was known for her hit singles in the 1960s, such as “Born a Woman” and “Single Girl.” Her other songs include “I Take It Back,” “Bring Him Safely Home to Me,” “What a Woman in Love Won’t Do,” and others.

During her career she had contracts with MGM, Columbia, Warner Bros. and other labels. Sandy lived to be 80 years old.
