Series of street takeovers in South LA causes chaos – NBC Los Angeles

Several street takeovers in southern Los Angeles left chaos in their wake, including an arson attack and looting on Sunday night.

Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Los Angeles Police Department, Los Angeles Fire Department, Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department and California Highway Patrol, responded to the incidents.

There were reportedly over 300 spectators at Manchester Square in South Los Angeles, and a car was even set on fire before the LAPD dispersed the crowd.

Further damage occurred around 2:30 a.m. Monday morning at the intersection of Manchester Avenue and Avalon Boulevard when people broke into the corner Wingstop and stole cash and chicken.

The LAFD responded to a car fire and a broken fire hydrant at the intersection of Century Boulevard and Western Avenue.

There was also a shooting nearby. No casualties have been reported so far.

In another part of South LA, further down Century Boulevard at the intersection with Hoover Street, Los Angeles Police broke up another street takeover involving over 100 cars. A nearby taco stand lost some of its supplies as people rushed to watch the spectacle.

The LASD Compton Station confirmed another street takeover at the intersection of Greenleaf Boulevard and South Santa Fe Avenue in Compton around 10 p.m. Officers responded to a report of shots fired.

According to LASD, the crowd dispersed when officers arrived at the scene. No gunshot victims were found.

In Compton, another takeover occurred at the intersection of Rosecrans Avenue and Central Avenue, even though parking meters had been installed on the street to prevent people from being thrown out.

This seizure of power was responded to by CHP officers, including one of their air units, who followed one of the vehicles involved in the seizure.

The occupants of the car abandoned the vehicle and ran, but one of the CHP units following them lost control and crashed into a median. However, no one was injured.
