Celebrity kids who have changed their names as Brad Pitt’s daughter is the latest to distance herself from famous parents

It may surprise you to know that Brad Pitt’s daughters are not the only celebrity children in history to have renounced their parents’ last names.

It is understandable why some famous children want to distance themselves from their successful mothers and fathers.

Some may not want to be legally associated with their caregivers, while others may want to forge their own path to success without being labeled a child of nepotism.

Among the latest young talents in Hollywood to change their last names are the children of 60-year-old Pitt: Shiloh (18), Zahara (19) and Vivienne (16).

Remarkably, the trio has followed in the footsteps of their 49-year-old mother Angelina Jolie.

As is well known, the Maleficent The star had previously asked the court to have her last name Voight removed.

But the Jolie family is not the only celebrity in favor of dropping their last name.

Suri Cruise to Suri Noelle

Suri is the daughter of Impossible mission Actor Tom Cruise and his ex-wife Katie Holmes.

According to Page Six, the 18-year-old graduated from high school this summer and decided to remove her father’s last name from her graduation booklet.

Instead, she was listed as “Suri Noelle” – presumably an ode to her mother’s middle name.

However, it remains unclear whether the name change is a legal adjustment or a professional decision.

Jaden and Willow Smith to Jaden and Willow

Jaden, 26, and his younger sister Willow, 23, are the famous offspring of Men in Black Actor Will Smith, 55, and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith, 52.

The siblings are known by their mononym, with Jaden previously stating, The Zane Lowe Show In 2020, Willow began using her first name long before him.

Malia Ann Obama to Malia Ann

Malia Ann, 26, is the eldest daughter of former US President Barack Obama, 62, and former First Lady Michelle Obama, 60.

In 2023, the former First Daughter directed an 18-minute film project called The heart.

At the time of her application, she dropped her last name “Obama” and instead adopted her middle name Ann.

When The heart debuted in a short film program at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, and in a “Meet the Artists” spotlight video she was referred to by her professional name Malia Ann.

From Nicolas Coppola to Nicolas Cage

You would be forgiven for not knowing that Nicolas Cage is the stage name of the 60-year-old star.

After his feature film debut in 1982 I think I’m standing in the forestthe actor decided to change his name from “Nicolas Kim Coppola” to “Nicolas Cage”.

This is because the Coppola family has a rich film tradition and Cage wanted to distance himself from his family members such as his uncle Francis Ford Coppola (85) and his cousin Sofia Coppola (53).

Vivian Jenna Musk to Vivian Jenna Wilson

In 2022, a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge granted Elon Musk’s 53-year-old daughter legal permission to change her name to Vivian Jenna Wilson, 20.

She dropped her famous father’s surname for her mother, Justine Wilson, whom the Tesla CEO was married to between 2000 and 2008.

In court documents, Vivian explained her decision by saying that she no longer wanted to be “related in any way to her biological father.”
