The Sims 4 isn’t the kind of game that has bosses, and yet one player seems to have defeated the final boss, Death, by killing him. The Sims 4 allows players to guide their custom characters through all stages of life until their death, but killing the Grim Reaper was never part of the game.

The Grim Reaper made his first appearance in Living in Grand stylethe first extension of the original Sims game released in 2000. Since then, he has appeared in all major series Sims base game, where he fulfills his primary role of escorting dead Sims to the afterlife, but also has some other, more light-hearted interactions, such as showing up for trick-or-treating when there are at least five jack-o-lanterns on a residential lot. It is even possible to see the Grim Reaper in The Sims 4 under the right circumstances.

Killing the Grim Reaper is a different story, as it’s not even possible under normal circumstances, but a player posting under the Reddit name Asphalt_Skyrat shared an image of the Grim Reaper’s tombstone and explained that his version of the eternal being managed to die in the game, although he isn’t entirely clear on what caused it. Trying to understand how this happened, the player claimed that the embodiment of Death appeared to take away the soul of another dead Sim, and concluded that one of the other Sims on the lot must have independently performed an action that led to Death’s death. As one commenter noted, an icon on the screen shows that the player had installed a mod that gives Sims a murder order, which could explain the Grim Reaper’s death. The player took the tombstone to a Sim’s home lot, where the Grim Reaper now lives as a Sims4 Spirit that can be interacted with like any other spirit.

Killing the Grim Reaper in The Sims 4

Even with console commands, the Grim Reaper is very difficult to kill in The Sims 4 without mods. Players can use cheat commands to take control of him, but he can’t catch fire, starve, be overcome by emotions, or be eaten by a cow plant. The most reliable method players have found to kill him is to save the Reaper to the game’s library and create a custom Reaper that can die, after which a new Reaper will spawn to take his place anyway.

Since the Grim Reaper is one of the most recurring characters in the game, Sims4 Fans have long wanted more death mechanics, and the latest post seems to have reinvigorated that part of the fanbase once again. One commenter posited that after the Reaper departs, a randomly selected townsperson would take his place and fulfill his duties.
