News on the war between Israel and Hamas: Israeli military orders evacuation of part of the humanitarian zone in the Gaza Strip

The Israeli military has ordered the evacuation of part of a densely populated area in the Gaza Strip that it had declared a humanitarian zone. At the same time, the Gaza Health Ministry announced that more than 39,000 Palestinians have now been killed during the nine-month war.

The military said on Monday it was planning an operation against Hamas militants who have established themselves in the area and are using it to fire rockets at Israel. The area covers the eastern part of the Muwasi humanitarian zone in the southern Gaza Strip.

Earlier this month, Israel said it estimates that at least one million Palestinians are now in the humanitarian zone, which stretches for about 14 kilometers along the Mediterranean Sea. Much of the area is full of Campsite who lack sanitation and medical facilities and have limited access to assistance.

The announcements came amid delicate ceasefire negotiations. Egypt, Qatar and the United States are urging Israel and Hamas to reach a phased agreement that would end the fighting and release the remaining hostages. The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said a negotiating team would be dispatched on Thursday to continue the talks.

Netanyahu traveled to Washington on Monday, where he will deliver a speech to the U.S. Congress and meet with President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.

Here is the latest information:

Death toll in Gaza Strip exceeds 39,000

Since the beginning of the war, more than 39,000 people have died in Gaza, according to figures from the state’s Health Ministry. The ministry makes no distinction between Palestinian civilians and fighters in its count.

The new figure comes as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu travels to the United States to meet with President Joe Biden and make his case to Congress for the nine-month war against Hamas.

At least 37 people were killed in new Israeli attacks near the southern city of Khan Younis on Monday, according to the ministry, the Nasser Hospital morgue and journalists who saw the bodies. The attacks came as hundreds of people were being evacuated on orders from the Israeli military.

Death of two Israeli hostages announced

TEL AVIV, Israel – The Israeli military announced Monday the deaths of two Israeli hostages held in the Gaza Strip.

The military said it had confirmed the deaths of 35-year-old Yagev Buchshtab and 76-year-old Alex Dancyg, both of whom were abducted from their homes in southern Israel on October 7, based on intelligence information.

The military did not provide any information about when the hostages died.

Dancyg, who was kidnapped from Kibbutz Nir Oz, celebrated his 76th birthday on Sunday. According to the Hostages and Missing Families Forum, Dancyg worked at the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial for over 30 years and spent his time in captivity giving history lectures to the other hostages.

Yagev Buchstab, 35, was abducted from Kibbutz Nirim on October 7 along with his wife Rimon Buchshtab-Kirsht. Rimon was released after 50 days of captivity as part of the November ceasefire agreement.

There are still around 120 hostages being held in Gaza. However, Israel believes that more than 40 of them are no longer alive.

Announcement from Monday increases the pressure to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agree to a ceasefire proposal which ensure the return of the hostages still held in Gaza and the nine-month war.

Netanyahu left for the United States on Monday morning, accompanied by some of the hostages’ families and those released. Other hostages’ families implored Netanyahu to reach an agreement before he left, fearing that time was running out.

A negotiating team will be dispatched to continue talks on Thursday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said.

Once again, displaced Palestinians are being evacuated from parts of the Gaza Strip

DEIR AL-BALAH, Gaza — Thousands of Palestinians packed up their belongings and began once again evacuating part of the Gaza Strip that the Israeli military has declared humanitarian zone.

“We were expelled from the eastern regions, they told us to evacuate, we took our children and left,” said Osama Qudeih. “There was no safe place left in Gaza… We walked the streets and did not know where to go.” Thousands of families walked along dusty roads with backpacks and children under the scorching summer sun, driving dilapidated cars crammed with belongings tied to the roofs.

Another woman collapsed in exhaustion after saying it was her seventh or eighth expulsion. “Every day we are expelled,” Kholoud al-Dadas said, holding her children in her arms. “Where are the countries? Where is the world, where are the presidents, where are they? Come and see how we are, our children, and what is happening to us.”

The area designated for evacuation included the eastern part of the al-Muwasi humanitarian zone in the southern Gaza Strip. The Israeli military called for the evacuation because Hamas fighters had established themselves in the area and were regularly firing rockets at Israel.

In addition, one person was killed and three injured in an attack outside Al-Aqsa Hospital in the central Israeli city of Deir al-Balah on Monday morning, according to an Associated Press journalist on the scene.

At least 15 people, including four women and six children, were killed in attacks overnight in the southern city of Khan Younis, hospital officials and an Associated Press journalist said. The Israeli military did not immediately comment.

Israeli military: One man was killed while trying to stab Israeli forces

TEL AVIV, Israel – The Israeli military said one person was killed when he attempted to stab Israeli security forces at the entrance to an Israeli town along the Gaza border on Monday morning.

According to Israel’s Army Radio, the attacker arrived at the security checkpoint by car and began blaming Israel in English for committing atrocities in Gaza before reaching into his car and pulling out a knife. Security forces shot the man dead. No other injuries were reported.

The attack took place at the entrance to the Israeli town of Netiv Haasara, just 300 meters north of the Gaza border. Israeli police confirmed that the attacker was a Canadian citizen.

On October 7, Netiv HaAsara was attacked and 20 residents were killed after the gunmen paraglided over the concrete wall, according to Israeli military officials. Israel has seen a wave of stabbing attacks across the country during the nine-month war in Gaza, but few of them have occurred along the Israel-Gaza border, where there is a heavy military presence.

Israel’s Netanyahu travels to Washington

JERUSALEM – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu departed for Washington on Monday, leaving a brutal war to deliver a politically sensitive speech to the US Congress at a time of great uncertainty following Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the presidential race.

With ongoing efforts to a ceasefire between Israel and Hamasgrowing concern about the spread of the war to Lebanon and Yemenand the USA in the middle of a dizzying election campaignNetanyahu’s speech could cause unrest on both sides of the ocean.

The risks have only increased with Biden’s decision on Sunday to drop out of the presidential race, especially as the election of a replacement candidate of the Democrats – and the potential next American head of state – are still up in the air.

Before boarding the plane, Netanyahu said he would focus his speech on Israel’s bipartisanship, saying Israel will remain America’s most important ally in the Middle East “regardless of who the American people elect as their next president.”

“In this time of war and uncertainty, it is important that Israel’s enemies know that America and Israel stand together,” he said, adding that he would meet with Biden during his trip and thank him for his support for Israel.

Netanyahu is scheduled to address Congress on Wednesday and meet with Vice President Kamala Harris, who is running for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination.

Israel shoots down a rocket fired from Yemen

JERUSALEM – The Israeli military said it intercepted a missile fired from Yemen early Sunday, just hours after Israeli warplanes attacked several Houthi targets in the Arabian Peninsula country.

The Israeli airstrikes – in response to a deadly Houthi drone attack on Tel Aviv – marked the first time Israel has responded to repeated Houthi attacks in its history. nine-month war against Hamas. The outbreak of violence between the distant enemies threatens to open a new front as Israel fights against a series of Iranian proxies throughout the region.

The Israeli army confirmed late Saturday that it had carried out air strikes on the western Yemeni port city of Hodeidah, a Houthi stronghold and a key access point for humanitarian aid and other supplies. The attacks, carried out by dozens of aircraft, including US F-15 and F-35 fighter jets, were a response to hundreds of Houthi attacks, it said.

Yemen’s Health Ministry said six people were killed and 83 others injured in the Israeli strikes, many of them with severe burns from a large fire. Three other people were missing, the ministry said in a statement that was also shared by the Houthi-run al-Masirah television station.
