Did Prince George secretly sneak a Taylor Swift bracelet into his birthday photo?

Did Prince George secretly sneak a Taylor Swift bracelet into his birthday photo?

Prince George’s personal style is reflected in his new birthday portrait of mom Kate Middleton.

The second in line to the throne celebrates his 11th birthday on July 22, and Princess Kate and Prince William continued the tradition by releasing a new photo of their eldest son to mark the milestone. A close look at the black-and-white snap of Prince George in a dark blazer and dark pants with a white shirt also reveals an unexpected accessory – a string bracelet reminiscent of the friendship bracelet trend among Swifties at Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour concerts.

Last month, for his 42nd birthday on June 21, Prince William took Prince George and Princess Charlotte, 9, to Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in London, where they had the chance to meet the superstar and her boyfriend Travis Kelce. The royal family’s rare selfies with Swift shared on Instagram captured the children’s beaming smiles. A few weeks later, George and Charlotte were spotted wearing cord bracelets.

Friendship bracelets (especially beaded ones) experienced an explosive pop culture moment during Swift’s global Eras tour, inspired by a line about the homemade jewelry in the lyrics of a song on her 2022 album. midnightOn July 14, Prince George and Princess Charlotte were spotted wearing cord bracelets during individual sporting outings with their parents, Prince William and Princess Kate.

Last Sunday, Prince George and Prince William travelled to Germany to watch the UEFA European Championship between England and Spain. George’s left wrist sported a multi-coloured cord bracelet. Father and son clapped, cheered and reacted with similar expressions to the exciting football match, which Spain ultimately won 2-1.

On the same day, Princess Charlotte spent a girls’ day with her mother Princess Kate (42) and her aunt Pippa Middleton at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships, where the little princess wore two cord bracelets (pale pink and blue) on her right arm.

The event was particularly memorable as it was the Princess of Wales’ second public appearance of 2024 as she continues her cancer treatment. It was also likely her last public appearance for a while, as the royals traditionally retreat from the spotlight during the summer months.

“She doesn’t need to be the center of attention,” a palace insider tells PEOPLE exclusively in the current issue. “Being with her family and just being herself will give her energy. She will have plenty of time to focus on her recovery.”

Aside from their possible Swiftie status, Prince George and Princess Charlotte aren’t the only members of the royal family who have worn string bracelets this summer—that goes for King Charles, too!

The royal was first seen wearing a red and yellow twisted cord bracelet when he travelled to Wales with Queen Camilla on July 11, waving on his way to the Senedd, the Welsh parliament. The 75-year-old sovereign was photographed wearing it again on July 15 and 16 in the Channel Islands of Jersey and Guernsey, and at the State Opening of Parliament on July 17.

Although the monarch’s surprise accessory doesn’t exactly match that of his grandchildren, it’s notable that all three royals began wearing the bracelets around the same time. King Charles, Prince George and Princess Charlotte were not seen wearing the bracelets at Trooping the Colour on June 15, suggesting the casual accessory is a new addition in recent weeks.

King Charles has already paid tribute to his grandchildren in style, and the Daily Mail reported that the pink and blue dinosaur tie in his royal wardrobe “was probably a Christmas present from one of his grandchildren.”

The monarch made a new fashion statement with the bracelet as he waved upon leaving Parliament on July 17, Queen Camilla’s 77th birthday, appearing in good spirits as he continues his cancer treatment.
