  • Manchester United would like to bring the Dutch centre-back to Old Trafford
  • There is currently no agreement on a deal between the two clubs.
  • According to reports from Germany, an opening offer from United was rejected

A £30 million offer from Manchester United for Bayern Munich centre-back Matthijs de Ligt has reportedly been rejected.

United were among the Premier League’s busiest transfer spenders in the summer transfer market, with both Joshua Zirkzee and defender Leny Yoro moving to Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag is keen to work with his former Ajax captain De Ligt again and publicly expressed United’s interest in the centre-back ahead of their pre-season win over Rangers on Friday.

And Bild football editor Christian Falk claims that United have made a first offer for the defender.

He tweeted: “Manchester United offers 35 million euros (30 million pounds) for Matthijs de Ligt. Bayern have rejected the offer.”

Manchester United have reportedly had a £30 million offer for Matthijs de Ligt rejected.

“FC Bayern is demanding 50 million euros plus a transfer fee. Bayern has to sell players to buy new players. Negotiations between the clubs are ongoing.”

It was previously reported that De Ligt had agreed personal terms with the Manchester team as Ten Hag targets a second Dutch signing this summer, but there is currently no agreement between the two clubs.

De Ligt is currently enjoying a long break after the Netherlands’ participation in the 2024 European Championship – although he did not play a single game at the tournament.

The 24-year-old has enjoyed mixed success since joining Bayern from Juventus two years ago in a move worth an estimated £68 million.

United would like to offer the combative defender a long-term contract and thereby send a signal that they are investing in a player who wants to get back to his best form after a few mixed years.
