Nightwing, Superman and other important comic news

This week began with DC Comics’ announcement of Tom Taylor’s next project Detective comics. There was also the announcement of a new universe called Absolute Universe; here characters like Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman are without the things that made them heroes. It was also the end of Gerry Duggan’s series Invincible Iron Manwhich ends with Tony Stark becoming a billionaire again and more.

A lot happened in the comics world this week, but those weren’t the only important developments. Here are the other important comic moments of the week.

The first time Dick Grayson tried to fly, he fell. He was so scared that his parents would die during their act that he begged them to stop. After Dick recovered, a new trapeze artist met him and said, “Your parents are kind of my heroes. And a kid like you… you should follow in their footsteps. You should fly, man.” He then said that he would teach Dick not to be afraid. That man was Boston Brand, who later became Deadman. When Dick found out, he went to Deadman to cure him of his crippling fear of heights.

Meanwhile, Heartless (in costume) tells the world that he is Dick Grayson and will kill someone every hour until the Titans leave. However, he says Nightwing is welcome to stay. With Nightwing’s departure, something cool happens: Bruce becomes Nightwing, just as Dick once became Batman.

This is also a cool reference to Tom Taylor’s injusticeAfter Deadman was “killed,” he called Dick Grayson to take his place.

While Superman and other heroes regroup in the Fortress of Solitude, Jimmy Olson, Lena Luthor, a depowered Silver Banshee and an amnesiac Lex Luthor go to Supercorp. They hope that surrendering Lex Luthor will help refresh Luthor’s memory (which is what happens at the end of Brainiac’s House). Unfortunately, it didn’t work and Peacemaker was there to steal technology for Amanda Waller. Luckily, Lois Lane was there in battle armor and ready for battle.

After losing his final battle against the surface world and the Avengers, Namor was sent to prison. He could have escaped at any time, but wanted to do his penance. He felt bad for causing pain all over the seas and refused to go into the ocean. After Stingray tells him that a civil war is being fought underwater, Namor decides to take himself out of the game.

It’s unlikely that Namor will be king again anytime soon. The best guess is that he will stay to help the next one be a better ruler than he was.

The things Jean Grey could do with her powers were always incredible. Even with the Phoenix Force, she never seemed to reach her full potential. In Stephanie Phillips’ PhoenixReaders see how they do unimaginable things together.

First, Jean absorbed a dying sun. That was just her warm-up routine. Later, she stabilized a black hole. Let that sink in. Doing one or the other is something some gods can’t do. She did both in one day. Imagine what she’ll do next.
