Drew’s on Halsted in Lake View is famous for its weekend brunch

On this week’s edition of WGN Weekend Morning News Sunday Brunch, Tim Joyce is joined by owner Drew Johnson and chef Isaac Santos of Drew’s on Halsted in Lake View.

Drew’s on Halsted, 3201 North Halsted Street, has been around for 24 years and is famous for its weekend brunch with live DJs and unlimited mimosas in eight flavors. It also serves a sangria that Johnson says is “more like a cocktail” because it contains brandy.

For Sunday brunch, Johnson and Santos cooked a poblano egg white omelet with peppers, onions, mushrooms, Chihuahua cheese and shrimp, all topped with toasted salsa.

But don’t worry, says Johnson: It’s not too hot.

“It’s not spicy,” he assured. “It’s very mild, but very flavorful.”

But more than anything else, Johnson wanted to thank his staff, who he said have been with him throughout.

“Almost everyone has been there for a very, very long time,” Johnson said. “… It’s like a family. We’ve been through everything together.”
