Revealed: What United player’s agent told club after Erik ten Hag’s ‘not good’ comments

Amid a chaotic transfer window at Manchester United, which saw the club sign two high-profile new signings, reports circulated that a discredited player could leave the club on loan.

In fact, Antony, one of Erik ten Hag’s very first signings at Old Trafford, has been linked with a temporary move away from the club as he looks to return to form after two dismal seasons.

The winger cost United a staggering £86 million in 2022 when he signed from Ajax on a five-year deal, with Ten Hag personally pushing for his arrival after working with him for two seasons in Amsterdam.

Yet the manager is still waiting to see the most productive version of Antony that he knew so well back then. The 24-year-old is well on his way to cementing his place as one of United’s most disappointing signings in history, with his outrageous price tag becoming more incomprehensible with every lackluster performance he puts in.

In his first season as a Red, he scored eight goals and provided three assists in 44 appearances – numbers that seem quite impressive considering his second season, as the Brazilian only scored three goals in all competitions – and 38 appearances – in the 2023/2024 season.

A series of particularly poor cameos led to Antony losing his starting place to his younger counterpart Alejandro Garnacho. After the summer, he will also have to compete for playing time with Amad Diallo, Jadon Sancho and Facundo Pellistri.

What Ten Hag said about Antony during preseason

This is presumably why recent reports have suggested a loan move for the attacker, although Ten Hag has reiterated his faith in signing the attacker in his recent comments – despite admitting that he was not up to par last season.

“I remain convinced that Antony has the potential to play for this club,” Ten Hag began“He definitely showed that potential in the first month: he scored three goals in his first three games. After that, it became more difficult. Last season was not good.”

Antony’s agent has since also spoken out and dismissed any speculation about a possible departure: “I see reports about a possible loan exit. Antony’s plan is clear: Manchester United.

“He wants to stay. He is only focused on Man United. We have already spoken to the club about this.”
