This time Chelsea fans – What others think about Newcastle United and the club’s supporters

I work for a large organisation with staff based all over the UK, so I thought I would ask some of them to give me their thoughts on our club.

Looking at Newcastle United through other people’s eyes.

Last time it was a few Manchester City fans.

This time it’s Chelsea fans.

First up is a Chelsea fan who lives in Yorkshire.

What do you think of Mike Ashley’s time as Newcastle manager and the way the Newcastle fans hated him?

I liked him as Newcastle owner, he reminded me of a really bad Ken Bates!

How well do you think Steve Bruce did his job as manager of the club? Was it right to sack him as soon as he took over?

I thought Brucie did well with the resources he had, but if you had to choose between Brucie and Eddie Howe, there would be no choice.

That could be, but people said the same thing about Brian Clough.

I think with a good coach England would have won the last two tournaments, so I would let him take over now.

Who in the Newcastle team would join yours?

They are all too old and have played too many games. We are only interested in players who have no real experience and who can perhaps bring profit to the club in the coming years.

Young players from all over the world are becoming extremely well-paid players, allowing global companies to show a return on investment.

Before the takeover, did you think of Newcastle United as a “big club”?

Newcastle is a “big club”, just like Villa and Everton.

Are Newcastle a “bigger club” now? Or will that only be the case when they start winning things?

Newcastle can only progress if they win trophies over a long period of time, not just one or two. They have to win more.

Would you be happy if Newcastle won a trophy for the first time since the last ice age?

No, as a Chelsea fan from Manchester living in Yorkshire (Leeds fans love me), I wish the ice age lasted much longer.

Does Newcastle need to move out of the city to an 80,000 square metre mega-stadium to ‘develop the club’, or should it settle for a small extension to St James’ Park (to around 58,000 square metres)?

I believe that winning trophies is more important than changing stadiums.

How did Newcastle perform in the Champions League last season?

They played better than expected but finished the game as expected.

Now a Chelsea fan living in London.

What do you think of Mike Ashley’s time as Newcastle manager and the way the Newcastle fans hated him?

The Cockney Mafia slogan was great. The hate was a bit strong. It could have been better, but it could have been worse.

How well do you think Steve Bruce did his job as manager of the club? Was it right to sack him as soon as he took over?

You made a decision and it paid off.

Is Eddie Howe the next coach of the England national team?

I would have paid for his flight to Germany myself.

Who in the Newcastle team would join yours?

What would be the price to buy Bruno, Anthony Gordon, Joelinton or Isak?

There are some good names there, £50 million each?

Before taking over, did you think of Newcastle United as a “big club”? If not, where did you see Newcastle?

Saw her as a sleeping giant.

Is Newcastle a “big club” now? Or will that only be the case when they start winning things?

Not yet, trophies must be acquired first.

Would you be happy if Newcastle won a trophy?

Yes, I have no grudge against Newcastle.

Does Newcastle need to move out of the city to an 80,000 square meter mega stadium to “develop the club” or should it be happy with a small price increase compared to St James Park (around 58,000 or so)?

I think 58,000 is enough, although it limits the entrance fees. Don’t sell your soul!

How did Newcastle perform in the Champions League last season?

I thought they did quite well, but were unlucky against the Italians in the last game.
