Taylor returns to Sandy Park

Exeter Chiefs fans may recognise the face but perhaps not the name as Taylor Perry heads to Sandy Park for the second part of her time in Devon.

The last time the link-up was here, she played under her maiden name Taylor Black. She made her debut for the club in October 2020 against Gloucester-Hartpury and went on to make 14 league appearances, scoring three tries.

Perry said: “Joining Exeter Chiefs is an exciting opportunity to build on the fantastic experience I had with them in 2020/2021. Witnessing the growth of the team over the last three years has been inspiring and that is exactly what prompted me to join.”

“Their narrow failure to reach the league final only reinforces my belief that this team is capable of finishing at the top. If I can contribute to that, I would be very grateful for the opportunity. With exceptional coaches, support staff and talented teammates, I am excited to improve my game and see what next season has in store for us.”

Since her first season with the Chiefs, the 23-year-old has played for Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. She has made 14 appearances for her country after missing the 2021 Women’s Rugby World Cup due to a serious knee injury. She was also part of Canada’s sevens program this year.

Head coach Susie Appleby said: “Taylor is another player we welcome back to our team. We always say, ‘Once a Chief, always a Chief’.”

“Taylor was fantastic during the season she was with us but frustratingly had to retire early due to injury. She has now gained additional experience at national and international level and I’m really looking forward to seeing what she can add to our game next season while providing more competition for the number 10 shirt.”
