Manchester United ‘agree to personal terms’ with PSG midfielder Manuel Ugarte as club eyes third major transfer

Manchester United have reportedly made progress in their bid to bring Manuel Ugarte to Old Trafford.

It has already been a busy summer for United, who kicked off their transfer business with the signing of striker Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna for £36.5 million.

They then made quick progress on Real Madrid and completed the signing of 18-year-old Leny Yoro, completing a £52 million deal to secure the centre-back and bolster their options in defence.

Erik ten Hag is still keen to further strengthen the squad and PSG midfielder Ugarte, who is represented by the same agent as Yoro, Jorge Mendes, appears to be the next big target.

According to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, United have agreed personal terms with the 23-year-old, who was a regular in Uruguay’s starting line-up at the Copa America this summer.

It is claimed that Ugarte is keen on a move to Old Trafford, despite the club not being able to afford to play in the Champions League this season and United currently being in talks with PSG over a transfer fee.

Previous reports suggested that PSG would be willing to sell for around £50 million to make room in the squad for highly-paid Benfica star Joao Neves.

United are determined to sign a defensive midfielder this summer after that area of the pitch proved to be a real problem last season.

Casemiro has struggled with form all season and it remains to be seen whether he will still be at the club at the end of the transfer window. There is also no decision yet on whether Sofyan Amrabat will be signed permanently after his loan spell.
