Two of the Detroit Tigers’ most promising talents are moving up.

Outfielder Max Clark, whom the Tigers selected No. 3 in the 2023 MLB Draft, and shortstop Kevin McGonigle, whom the Tigers selected 34 spots later, were both called up to High-A West Michigan.

The West Michigan Whitecaps announced the news on social media Sunday afternoon with the words “Welcome to West Michigan!”

Clark is not only one of the most exciting young players in the Tigers organization, but also one of the most promising talents in all of baseball. The left-handed, smooth-swinging pitcher is the 10th-ranked prospect on MLB Pipeline’s top 100 list, just one spot ahead of Tigers’ right-handed pitcher Jackson Jobe. Additionally, Clark made his MLB Future’s Game debut last week, becoming the first batter to strike out of the game. It wasn’t the best game of Clark’s life, but he did get a single on a sharp line drive against St. Louis Cardinals left-handed prospect Quinn Mathews.

While McGonigle isn’t quite as highly touted as Clark, he’s still an elite talent. At just 19 years old, he’s the No. 63 player according to MLB Pipeline and has more than earned his promotion to West Michigan. This year at Low-A Lakeland, McGonigle posted a .326/.407/.470 batting average with 15 doubles and three home runs after returning from a hamstring injury, and will now look to carry that success back to the Middle State.

Clark, also 19, doesn’t have the same batting average as McGonigle, but he has a bit more power. He has a batting average of .286/.386/.421 with seven home runs, 11 doubles and three triples.

Both players still have a long way to go before making their Tigers debut, but it’s certainly a good sign for Tigers fans to see some of the organization’s potential future stars taking the next step.
