Manchester United asks Antony to look for a new club

Manchester United have reportedly asked Antony to find a new club as they are willing to sell one of their most expensive signings.

Accordingly a football insiderManchester United have put Antony’s immediate future at risk by telling the player to find a new club, with little interest in the Brazilian, who has struggled to maintain his relevance since his £86m move from Ajax in 2022.

Is Antony leaving Manchester United?

Antony looked to be worth the £86 million Manchester United paid Ajax when he scored in the 35th minute of his debut against Arsenal at Old Trafford. He performed well in the next few games but has not featured as much since then and the club are already considering his future.

Manchester United are reportedly considering sending him on loan to improve his skills and help him continue his career here. The problem could be his £100,000-a-week salary, which some suitors may not be willing to shell out. This means the Red Devils may have to cover some of the salary to get the player out of the squad.

Antony had some off-field issues last season but still made 29 Premier League appearances and scored one goal, a late equaliser against Burnley. That goal was his first goal contribution in 23 games for the Red Devils and overall it has caused the club to consider his immediate future.

Manchester United have reportedly urged Antony to find a new club this summer as they may no longer have the confidence to keep the attacker. His agent recently spoke out about Fabrizio Romano, stressing that the winger is not considering a move away as there is a possibility that the Brazilian will want to stay and fight for his place under Erik ten Hag.

Antony could face more competition in 2024/25

Manchester United had a poor showing last season with many of their attackers underperforming, but there is plenty of hope and given the level of talent at Ten Hag’s disposal, Antony may find it difficult to break into the starting line-up due to the competition.

Manchester United are retaining Amad Diallo, while Jadon Sancho has also returned and is expected to stay at the club after resolving his issues with Ten Hag. The duo are the biggest threat to Antony ahead of the new season, meaning the club will not lose too much if they decide to offload him before the transfer window closes.
