The song in Michelob Ultras Super Bowl Commercial 2024l is so catchy that viewers almost forget the famous faces in the ad, including two world-famous athletes and the star of Ted Lasso. Since the 1980s, Michelob, under the Anheuser-Busch label, has used catchy songs in its commercials, promoting a laid-back yet fun-loving lifestyle. The slogans have evolved from “The night belongs to Michelob” To “Some days are better than others“. The brand’s 2024 Super Bowl ad is called “Superior Beach” and promotes the brand’s low-carb beer, Michelob Ultra.

For advertisers, a Super Bowl commercial is the holy grail. While commercials in everyday life are treated like nuisances to be slapped away as soon as the skip button is available, Super Bowl commercials have become a phenomenon of their own, and for many viewers, they are as integral to the event as the coin toss or the halftime show. Celebrities often appear in these commercials, and Michelob Ultra’s 2024 Super Bowl commercial was no exception. But while the 123.7 million viewers of the 2024 Super Bowl got to see some A-list celebrities, they also got to dance to a great song.

“Quando, Quando, Quando” by The Drifters is the song in the Michelob Ultra 2024 Super Bowl commercial

The track is about Messi waiting for his beer

In Michelob Ultra’s charming 90-second 2024 Super Bowl commercial, “Superior Beach,” Argentinian soccer superstar Lionel Andrés “Leo” Messi and two friends congregate at a beach bar for a few glasses of Michelob Ultra. The friends are served first, and before Messi gets his, the keg is empty. The bartender suggests another beer, but Messi politely insists on Michelob Ultra, so she goes in search of a fresh keg.

Then a soccer ball lands at Messi’s feet and the other beachgoers point in awe at the famous athlete. As the playful Messi engages them in a beach game, the 1965 version of “Quando, Quando, Quando” by the Drifters plays. The blues and soul band’s beach bossa nova track, which translates to “When, when, when,” is the perfect tune for Messi to pass the time and outwit his opponents, including a cute dog.

Just as he’s about to score a goal, the bartender blows his whistle loudly to signal to Messi that his beer is ready. He gracefully passes the ball to another player, who scores a goal, and Messi toasts his Michelob Ultra with his friends. Messi is perfectly charismatic in the commercial, but it’s the song “Quando, Quando, Quando” that sets the mood of a laid-back, free-spirited beach crowd who are as happy to share their favorite drink, Michelob Ultra, as they are to play soccer with celebrity athletes.

Michelob Ultra has included some Easter eggs for Super Bowl fans

While Michelob Ultra’s “Superior Beach” ad is undoubtedly effective, some will raise eyebrows when the company airs a commercial featuring a soccer star on the biggest soccer night of the year. This is where Ted LassoJason Sudeikis and football legend Dan “The Man” Marino walk in. While Messi is playing on the beach, Sudeikis pulls cans of Michelob Ultra out of a cooler while his friends watch the athlete in action. Sudeikis confirms that he and Leo “go back.”

Michelob Ultra didn’t just put Sudeikis in its commercial to boast about another celebrity; Sudeikis’ casting is a stroke of advertising genius. The actor and comedian is best known for his Emmy-winning role as Ted Lasso on the Apple TV+ show of the same name. Ted is an American college football coach who, for some unknown reason, is offered a job coaching a Premier League soccer team in England. And while Sudeikis doesn’t sport Lasso’s signature mustache in the “Superior Beach” commercial, his fun-loving commentary – “Come on, (Messi) doesn’t even try out there.” – reminiscent of a good-natured quote from Ted Lasso.

Jason Sudeikis played the character in an NBC Sports commercial for the English Premier League that premiered in 2020.

The Ted Lasso The star is not the only connection to American football in the commercial. While the beach players approach Messi from both sides, he quickly kicks the ball far out to sea, onto a yacht with the badge “The Dan MarinaMiami, FL”. On the yacht there is, not surprisingly, a case of Michelob Ultra, but also Dan “The Man” Marino.

Dan “The Man” played quarterback for the Miami Dolphins for 17 seasons and although he never won a Super Bowl, he is considered one of the best quarterbacks of all time. The icon catches Messi’s ball effortlessly and throws it back, calling his own name. In fact, Dan “The Man” still has it and brought the Michelob Ultra 2024 commercial full circle.
