Zelenskyj comments on Trump’s plan to end the Russian-Ukrainian war “in one day”

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said there was no one in the world who could force Ukraine to cede its territories to Russia in order to end the war quickly.

According to Ukrinform, he said this in an interview with the BBC, commenting on last year’s statement by former US President Donald Trump that he would end the Russian-Ukrainian war within 24 hours.

Zelensky said Ukraine would have to pay a price for ending the war within a day, including by ceasing hostilities and handing over occupied territories to Russia.

He added that in such a scenario, Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin would recapture Ukrainian territory and create “a victory” for his society and the world. This is a very simple path to peace, but Ukraine will never agree to it, Zelensky stressed.

“Yes, it is a very simple path, but we will never take it, never. And there is not a single person in the world who can force us to do it, because it is not about a president or ten people, it is about the nation,” said the head of state.

When asked about comments by Republican JD Vance – whom Trump recently nominated as his vice presidential candidate – about his indifference to the events in Ukraine, Zelensky said the American politician did not really understand what was going on in Ukraine.

“That is why we must work with the United States in our place. If a new team comes, we must work with them,” Zelensky said.

Asked about the claim that it would be difficult for Ukraine to convince the Trump team to continue Washington’s aid to Kyiv, Zelenskyy said: “Yes, but we are not afraid of hard work.”

As Ukrinform reported, John Bolton, national security adviser to former US President Donald Trump, said that the former US president had no idea how to end the war in Ukraine.
