Why Jess Vestal from “Perfect Match” took Harry Jowsey’s words at face value

Jess Vestal now knows that Harry Jowsey is not her Perfect matchBut for most of the second season of the Netflix dating show, she thought the two had a chance at a happy ending.

“I believe that people can change. I don’t know if that was the best example of that, but I believe it,” said Jess People in an interview after the finale. “I think everyone has to grow up at some point. If someone says they want to settle down, start a family and get married, then they mean it. So I just took what they said at face value.”

Jess and Harry split for good after filming, and in the season 2 finale, it was revealed that he lied to her and actually kissed co-star Melinda Berry during the competition. (He also told Melinda, “Oh yeah, I want to f**k you.”) And that came after several people on the show, including Harry’s friend Dom Gabriel, made assumptions about Harry’s intentions.

“He was very, very good to me until he wasn’t anymore,” Jess said Peopleadding that she and Harry had beautiful moments during their time together. “It was very believable. I felt like he really wanted to change. I feel like he had – for lack of a better word – really learned his lesson and wanted something real. And I was like, ‘Okay, so ask and you will receive it.'”

Ultimately, Jess said, there were “many promises and commitments that were not kept,” but she showed Harry the same grace that she wanted to experience herself.

“I was hoping to maybe find love, but I wouldn’t have cared if that hadn’t happened… but yeah, it didn’t go the way I thought it would,” she concluded. “Sometimes the best lessons are the hardest to learn.”
