The attempted assassination of Trump caused the virality of 50 Cent’s “Many Men” to increase by 250%, but the producer was strictly against it…

50 Cent was at the forefront more than anyone else, performing his 2003 cult hit “Many Men (Wish Death)” from his debut studio album following the July 13 assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. The rapper paid tribute to Trump after surviving the horrific incident, much like he himself survived his near-death experience in 2000 when he was shot nine times, creating an unspoken bond of solidarity between the two public figures.

During his performance in Boston, 50 Cent performed his iconic song “Many Men,” which is about his own near-death experience after Donald Trump survived an alleged assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania. The rapper sang the song while a banner with his altered album cover in honor of Trump could be seen in the background.

When 50 saw his classic song trending alongside the failed Trump assassination attempt in July 2024, he took full advantage of the situation, fueling its continued virality more than two decades after the song’s release. On his X/Twitter account, the “In Da Club” rapper shared not only a video clip of Trump raising his fist high in the air after surviving a gunshot that grazed his right ear while his song played in the background, but also an altered album cover of his breakthrough album, “Get Rich or Die Tryin,” with his face replaced with Trump’s.

The “Many Men” singer then took the song to the club and blasted it loud during one of his performances in Boston last Sunday. He displayed the same edited Trump poster in the background as he pumped up the crowd with his performance. The classic record soon made waves on social media, as the song subsequently found success on streaming platforms as well. Streams for 50 Cent’s song increased by 250%, with over 2 million streams in just two days, Billboard reported.

Why the producer of 50 Cent’s “Many Men” won’t allow the song to be used by the Trump campaign

Despite the rapper’s eye-catching performance and immediate response to the song, which topped online tags, the track’s veteran producer has no plans to share the song with the former president’s camp.

Unlike many netizens who urged the Trump team to team up with 50 for a “Many Men” remix and others who urged the rapper himself to give the Republican presidential candidate “authorization” to play the song as his campaign anthem, the song’s producer, Darrell “Digga” Branch, has made his opinion on the matter clear.

Although he was happy about the news that the song broke records, Digga told TMZ that he would not allow the song to be used “to make Trump look like a gangster” because he has no particular affinity for the former president.

He first posted on Instagram a screenshot of the Billboard story reporting on the unprecedented victory that “Many Men” had achieved after the July 13 incident. “The result was a massive increase in streams and sales of the song, which reached over 2.2 million on-demand audio streams in the US from July 13-15 – an increase,” he wrote under the post.

The Harlem native confessed he was shocked when his notifications kept ringing and wondered if it was a prank. Although 50 played the song at his Boston concert and all of Trump’s edits have been circulating online, Digga has drawn the line at the former president using the song on the campaign trail.

In the July 13 attack, assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire at Trump’s rally in Butler County, Pennsylvania. He was discovered on a rooftop, where he fired several shots, one of which killed an innocent rally attendee.
