The US is the second largest car market in the world. Most of the cars in the world are sold in the American market and it drives the automobile industry in many ways. Still, the American market is unique because people in the US love their pickup trucks and large SUVs. In today’s article, we will look at the top 10 best-selling cars in the US.
Ford F-Serie
Ford’s F-Series pickup truck is very popular in the US. It has been the best-selling vehicle in the US for years. The F-Series includes the F-150, F-250 and F-350. Here, too, most sales are of the F-150. Ford has also launched an electric option for the F-150. Ford sold 726,004 units of the F-Series in 2021, a decrease of 7.8% from 2020.
Ram pickup
The Ram truck line continued its ascent to grab the second spot, briefly outselling the F-Series as Ford struggled with the chip shortage. Ram sold 569,388 units of its pickup in 2021, up 1.0% from 2020.
Chevrolet Silverado
The Silverado lost some ground after holding its second place spot for years. It was overtaken by the Ram pickup and saw a sharp drop in sales. Chevrolet hopes it’s just a minor blip and it can recover in 2022. Chevrolet sold 519,774 units of the Silverado in 2021, a sharp 11.4% drop from 2020.
Toyota RAV4
The RAV4 is the best-selling non-truck car in the United States. The RAV4 has extended its lead over its subcompact competitors. Toyota sells hybrid and also plug-in hybrid models of the RAV4. Toyota sold 407,739 units of the RAV4 in 2021, a 5.3% decrease from 2020.
Honda CR-V
The CR-V is Honda’s bread and butter in the US market. The CR-V uses the Civic platform with an SUV body design. Honda has added a hybrid powertrain to the CR-V to increase its sales. Honda sold 361,271 units of the CR-V in 2021, an increase of 8.3% from 2020.
Toyota Camry
Although Americans love their large SUVs, sedans continue to do well in the American market. The Toyota Camry is a popular car in the US and always finds its way into the list of the top 10 best-selling cars. Toyota sold 313,795 units of the Camry in 2021, a 6.6% increase over 2020.
Nissan Rogue
The Rogue is Nissan’s best-selling model in the U.S. market, and it has been doing well since its redesign in 2020. Rogue sales also include the Rogue Sport, a smaller variant with a different exterior design. Nissan sold 285,602 units of the Rogue in 2021, a whopping 25.3% increase over 2020.
Jeep Grand Cherokee
Jeep recently introduced an all-new Grand Cherokee L with a third row of seats. Jeep also currently sells the two-row Grand Cherokee based on the older platform. Jeep sold 264,444 units of the Grand Cherokee in 2021, a whopping 26.1% increase over 2020.
Toyota Highlander
The Toyota Highlander is a three-row SUV sold in the United States. It has brought Toyota good sales since the redesigned model was launched in 2020. Toyota sold 264,128 units of the Highlander in 2021, a whopping 24.4% increase over 2020.
Honda Civic
The Civic is another popular sedan in the US market. Local manufacturers in the US have stopped selling small cars in favor of trucks, so the Civic doesn’t have much competition. Honda sold 263,787 units of the Civic in 2021, up 1% from 2020.
