Showrunner of the live-action series ONE PIECE confirms that season 2 is still “a long time coming”

Earlier this month, Netflix began filming the second season of its One piece Live-action series. As production on the hit series enters its third week, many fans are wondering when the show will return. Unfortunately, the wait may be longer than expected.

Speaking to Deadline, the series’ showrunner Becky Clements gave an update on the production status of the show’s second season. She noted that this is a “very VFX-heavy year” She explained that it was “will take a while” before the season is over.

“We are long gone,” She added.

Netflix has not yet announced a release date for season 2 One piecealthough it is safe to assume that it will not be released this year. “We’re filming until December” Clements confirmed.

Filming for season 2 is currently taking place in South Africa, which has recently been a “much rain.” While the amount of rain may affect the production and filming schedule, Clements assured that this will be the case. do not affect the creative vision at all.

“No, we will absolutely keep the creativity and all the exterior shots, the blue skies and the visual effects,” She explained. “We recently moved something indoors and agreed that the interior scene didn’t end up feeling as dynamic as we needed it to. When the weather gets better, we’ll find a place in the schedule to reshoot it.”

“Netflix understands this and is a good partner when we have to make these last-minute decisions,” She continued. “July and August are the tougher months and we’ve adjusted our schedule so that the majority of our exterior shots will be shot towards the end of the year, in the summer.”

It sounds like the crew was aware of the obstacles nature would throw their way and planned accordingly, so hopefully we shouldn’t see any delays in the actual filming of the show. However, as Clements mentioned, this season will be heavily VFX-based, meaning post-production could take some time.

There is still hope that One piece Season 2 will premiere sometime in 2025. If so, it will likely be later that year. The first season of the live-action adaptation premiered on Netflix on August 31, 2023, and became the streaming platform’s best-selling title worldwide, with 37.8 million views in less than two weeks. The series received rave reviews from critics and fans alike.

Elsewhere in the interview, Clements hinted that they have plans for multiple seasons of the series. Netflix has currently only greenlit a second season, but it sounds like Netflix is fully committed to the live-action series.
