Michael Kopsa, voice actor and character actor from Gundam and Fantastic Four, dies at the age of 66

Michael Kopsa, a prolific character and voice actor whose work included Beast X-Men: Evolution to Captain Windmark on Edge areahas died. He was 66.

His ex-wife, actress Lucia Frangione, announced the news on Twitter.

“The great Michael Kopsa, my dear friend and father of my child Nora, passed away on October 23, 2022 from a brain tumor,” Frangione wrote. “He was an incredible stage and screen actor, voice actor, carpenter, musician and painter. Most of all, he was a loving and very present father.”

Kopsa was born on January 22, 1956 in Toronto, Ontario, and studied acting at the Circle in the Square Theater School in New York. After four years there, he returned to his native Canada in 1984 to complete an Arts and Sciences degree at the University of Toronto.

He made his professional debut as the English voice of Char Aznable in the anime series Mobile Suit Gundam in 1979. Kopsa continued to work as a voice actor for anime and animated series and films throughout his career, including Dragon Ball Z, InuYasha, Death notice, Makers, X-Men: Evolution, Iron Man: Armored Adventures, Planet HulkAnd Ninjago. Kopsa also reprised his role as Char Aznable in the Gundam video games.

Kopsa made his film debut in 1985 with Timed coordination However, most of his better-known roles have been on television, particularly in genre shows filmed in Canada. He played several characters in the science fiction anthology series The outer limits and guest star at X-Files in 1997.

The Canadian actor appeared in small roles in a number of blockbusters, including 2005’s Fantastic Four2008s Guardian2011s Planet of the Apes: Prevolution, And Apollo-18In 2012, he landed a recurring role as the evil Captain Windmark in the fifth and final season of the Fox science fiction series Fringe.

During his career, Kopsa has acted in 227 roles.
