Israel launches attacks on Yemen’s Hodeidah after drone attack on Tel Aviv

Israeli warplanes have carried out air strikes on Yemen’s strategically important western province of Hodeidah after the regime threatened retaliation for an earlier drone attack by Yemeni forces against the occupying forces.

Israel’s military spokesman Daniel Hagari said Israeli fighter jets attacked military targets in Hodeidah. He said the airstrikes were a response to hundreds of attacks on Israel in recent months.

It was the first time in months of escalating tensions that the Israeli regime publicly attacked Yemen.

Yemeni television station al-Masirah reported on Saturday that the attack targeted fuel depots in the port city and that a fire broke out in the area.

The port has facilities for oil export, but is also an important interface for civilian goods and humanitarian aid to Yemen.

The television station also reported that numerous people were killed in the Israeli attacks, but did not give an exact number of victims.

Mohammed Abdul Salamthe spokesman for the Yemeni Ansarullah movement, said in a statement on X: “A brutal Israeli aggression has attacked civilian buildings, oil facilities and a power plant in Hodeidah with the aim of pressuring Yemen to stop its support for Gaza. However, the attack will only strengthen our determination, steadfastness and continuity.”

An Israeli official also confirmed the attack, saying it was carried out in coordination with the United States and in response to hundreds of attacks on Israel in recent months.

The United States and Britain have attacked hundreds of targets in Yemen since November and have been sharing intelligence with the Israeli regime for months.

The latest aggression came a day after Yemeni forces carried out a drone strike on Tel Aviv in response to Israel’s genocide in the Gaza Strip.

The drone struck an area near a US consular facility in Tel Aviv on Friday morning, killing one person and injuring ten others as Israeli air defenses failed to intercept the drone.

Ansarullah has already stated that it is prepared for “any Israeli reaction” to the attack.

Since the start of the Palestinian regime’s devastating war against Gaza on October 7, Yemenis have openly declared their support for Palestine’s struggle against Israeli occupation.

Yemeni forces have said they will not stop their attacks until Israeli ground and air offensives in the Gaza Strip, which have killed at least 38,919 people and injured another 89,459, end.
