Satellite images show damage to Russian airfield in Rostov Oblast after reported drone attack

The Millerovo military airfield in Russia’s Rostov Oblast was damaged by a nighttime drone attack, according to satellite data on July 20.

The Russian Defense Ministry claimed that Ukraine attacked the region with 26 drones on the night of July 19-20. The Telegram channel Crimean Wind subsequently reported that a fire broke out at the Millerovo airfield as a result of the attack.

According to satellite images, the attack damaged the airfield’s technical-operational unit as well as the fuel and lubricant storage facilities. compiled by Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL).

The data show that fires occurred in the warehouse, in the hangar of the technical-operational unit and in an open field.

The photos also seem to support Russian officials’ claims that no aircraft were damaged in the attack.

Ukrainian armed forces regularly conduct Drone attacks and acts of sabotage on Russian territory targeting military property, Oil refineriesand industrial facilities. The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the Ukrainian Military Intelligence Service (HUR) attacked the Akhtubinsk military airfield in Astrakhan Oblast on July 9.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on Western allies to provide Kiev with more long-range weapons and allow them to be used in attacks on military bases deep inside Russia.
