Shaft designer explains why club fitting is so important

Proper club fitting allows a golfer to get the most out of their golf game. However, unlike driver loft or grip size, different models must be tested directly against each other to determine which driver shaft performs best.

In the latest episode of GOLF On the Fully Equipped podcast, GOLF’s Jonathan Wall and True Spec Golf’s Kris McCormack conducted an exclusive studio interview with Alex Dee, an experienced golf club designer and co-founder of Aretera Golf. Before co-founding Aretera, Dee worked on Fujikura’s Ventus line and explained the two new Aretera Alpha One profiles and what makes them unique.

“The Alpha One is a line of shafts that come in two profiles: the blue and the gray,” he said. “The difference between them is that the gray shaft has a 10 percent stiffer tip section, while everything else from weight distribution to torque is the same, which is designed to simplify the fitting. (This helps) with the fitting process, as in many cases it can be difficult to tell what (when switching between different shafts) will have what effect on the results.”

Aretera Alpha One Blue Wooden Shaft

$420

Introducing the Aretera Alpha One Blue Wood Shaft: A combination of cutting-edge technology and precision engineering, this shaft is designed to improve your golf game. Let’s take a closer look at its notable features: Key Features of the Alpha One Series: Blue and Gray Model Family: The Alpha One Series simplifies the customization process by introducing a single variable that can be changed: tip stiffness. Tip Stiffness Differentiation: The Alpha One Gray has nearly 10% higher tip stiffness than the Alpha One Blue, while maintaining consistency in other variables. POWERGRID Weave: The structural interlocking of the POWERGRID weave ensures even force distribution, resulting in improved energy storage compared to traditional unidirectional carbon fiber weave. High Modulus Carbon Weave: Through the unique use of high modulus distributed carbon weave throughout the bias core, this shaft offers an unparalleled sense of connectivity and stability. Integrated Feel: Experience a more integrated feel that optimizes energy transfer from the clubhead to the ball. Stability and Performance: The Alpha One Blue Wood Shaft provides optimal stability without compromising feel or performance. Improved Torsional Rigidity: POWERGRID technology allows for design flexibility and improves feel without compromising stability in the lower and mid-section of the shaft.

“When it comes to profiles, we don’t define our shafts by ball flight profile because we see in our player testing that there can be significant variation depending on shaft specifications and also depending on the golfer’s interaction with (the shaft).”
