The 2024 Paris Olympics will be a mega spectacle and for the first time in history, the opening ceremony will not begin in a stadium. The opening ceremony will begin on the Seine, where an armada of boats will transport over 200 athlete delegations through the city. India will be represented in 16 sports disciplines in Paris and the government has spent a lot of money to increase the medal haul.

This is how much the Sports Ministry has invested in India’s Olympic athletes:
Neeraj Chopra – Javelin Throw
The reigning Olympic champion in javelin throwing is training at SAI NSNIS in Patiala and in Europe. The Sports Ministry has a total of ₹Approximately 5.72 crore for him. He will try to successfully defend his title in Paris.
Indian Men’s Hockey Team
In Tokyo, the Indian national hockey team ended the country’s 41-year drought with a bronze medal. They hope to build on that and have been training well at their base at the SAI NCOE in Bengaluru. The Sports Ministry has invested ₹41.81 crore for them.
Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty – Badminton Men’s Doubles
Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty trained at the Pullela Gopichand Badminton Academy in Hyderabad and have their sights set on gold. They have ₹5.62 crore from the Sports Ministry.
PV Sindhu – Badminton
PV Sindhu has silver in Rio 2016 and bronze in Tokyo 2020. She is aiming for gold and trains at the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy in Bengaluru and received ₹3.13 crore from the Sports Ministry.
Mirabai Chanu – Badminton
Mirabai Chanu is plagued by injuries and is expected to have a difficult time in Paris. She won silver in Tokyo and received an investment of ₹2.74 Crore from the Ministry and training at SAI NSNIS, Patiala.
Manu Bhaker – Shooting
Manu Bhaker will try to overcome her Tokyo disaster in Paris, and the Ministry of Sports has invested ₹1.68 crore for her. She trains at Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range in New Delhi.
Sift Kaur Samra – Shooting
She won India’s first gold medal at the Asiads in individual shooting in Hangzhou. She will look to repeat that form in Paris and has an investment of ₹1.63 crore from the Sports Ministry.
Rohan Bopanna – Tennis
The tennis legend will be back in action in Paris. The 44-year-old received an investment of ₹1.56 crore from the Sports Ministry.
Manika Batra – Table Tennis
The TT ace will try to win a medal or at least put up a good fight in Paris. The Ministry of Sports has invested ₹1.30 crore for her.
Nikhat Zareen and Lovlina Borogohain – Boxing
It is finally Zareen’s turn to take part in the Olympic Games. Lovlina already has an Olympic bronze medal. The Ministry of Sports invested ₹91.71 lakh and ₹81.76 lakh for Zareen and Lovlina.
Vinesh Phogat – Wrestling
This will be her third Olympic Games and she received an investment of ₹70.45 lakh from the Ministry of Sports.
