Ring Magazine’s Featherweight champion Amanda Serrano paved the way for her highly anticipated rematch against Katie Taylor by sweeping the unknown and underdog Stevie Morgan in the second round of their non-title bout, which co-featured the Jake Paul-Michael Perry event on Saturday at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida.

Serrano (47-2-1, 31 KOs), fighting her 50th professional fight, wasted no time in proving her class against Morgan (14-2, 13 KOs), a 35-year-old lightweight from Tampa. Serrano, also 35, applied heavy pressure and attacked with high volume, which quickly overwhelmed Morgan.

Serrano looked sharp, displaying tight technique and precise body-head combinations. Morgan stayed on his feet but was unable to defend himself against the future Hall of Famer, prompting the referee to stop the fight.

It was Serrano’s first win by stoppage since she stopped Daniela Bermudez with a body shot in the ninth round of their featherweight title fight in San Juan, Puerto Rico in March 2021. Her rematch with Katie Taylor is scheduled to take place on November 15, with the Irish superstar’s undisputed junior welterweight title on the line. Taylor narrowly defeated Serrano on points in a Fight of the Year in April 2022.

Taylor-Serrano II will be the co-feature to Paul vs. Mike Tyson, a lucrative showdown on Netflix that was kept alive when the 27-year-old from Ohio knocked out Bareknuckle champion Michael Perry in the sixth round and stopped him.

Paul (10-1, 7 KOs) knocked Perry down three times during a largely one-sided fight, but the determination and aggressiveness of the undersized and inexperienced (in boxing) former MMA fighter kept the fight interesting. Perry (0-2) was knocked down with a right to the ear less than a minute into the first round of the eight-round cruiserweight bout, then knocked down with a straight right 30 seconds into the second round (while Paul backed away) before being pushed back and knocked down by a series of rights and hard-hitting left hooks in Round 6. Referee Christopher Young stopped the fight at 1:12 of the sixth round.

Between knockdowns, Perry got caught in stiff, heavy punches from Paul, who boxed primarily with his back foot but still managed to bloody the Floridian’s face (even when it looked like Paul was running out of air).

The pay-per-view event was streamed live on DAZN and PPV.COM.
