Michigan Football signs 4-star OT Avery Gach to face rivals Ohio State and MSU

The Michigan football team’s success over the past three seasons has been built on hard work, and the Wolverines have further strengthened their offensive lines in the 2025 recruiting class.

On May 3, new UM offensive line coach Grant Newsome received his first verbal commitment since moving from tight ends coach to four-star offensive lineman from Franklin (Michigan) Wylie E. Groves. Avery Gach gave the Wolverines his commitment. Michigan defeated its two biggest rivals, Ohio State and Michigan State, in the battle for the 6’5″, 295lb player. Wisconsin was also among Gach’s final four schools.

According to 247Sports’ composite rankings, Gach is considered the No. 252 overall prospect, No. 13 offensive lineman and Michigan State’s No. 2 prospect in the 2025 recruiting class. The Franklin native has received a whopping 40 scholarship offers from FBS programs, including Alabama, Georgia, Florida State, Notre Dame, Miami and others, along with his final four. Here’s what 247Sports national recruiting analyst Allen Trieu had to say about Gach:

“High school offensive tackle who can be a swing guy at the next level. Tough, physical player who plays until the final whistle and finishes the play. Shows functional strength and padding, as well as a pure willingness to move defenders away from the ball, making him a dominant run blocker. Technically, he’s still coming along in the pass set and pass pro. Physicality shows in his shot there, too. Left tackle in high school who may be better suited as a right side option or interior player at the high-major level. Has put on good weight and strength and will continue to do so. Is a solid athlete at the base level, but can also continue to improve his pure explosiveness and lateral mobility. High-floor type candidate who will add depth at multiple positions to a high-major school and should be a reliable starter for multiple years at the Power Five level.”

On June 26, Gach was named Offensive Lineman MVP at the Rivals Five-Star Camp.

Gach was later joined by the three-star offensive player from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. Kaden Strayhorn in Michigan’s 2025 recruiting class. The Wolverines have seen several of their offensive players transfer to other schools this summer, but UM remains in the thick of the race for arguably their best target: five-star offensive tackle Blue Valley Northwest of Overland Park (Kan.). Andrew Babalolawho also considers Stanford, Oklahoma, Missouri and Auburn.

Michigan currently has 16 high school prospects committed for the 2025 recruiting class, ranking Michigan 12th in the country and 3rd in the Big Ten, behind only Ohio State and Oregon. The Wolverines’ average player rating of 91.63 is the eighth-best in the country.
