Anya Taylor-Joy confirms that she secretly married musician Malcolm McRae 2 years ago

The “Queen’s Gambit” star posted pictures of her wedding in New Orleans on Instagram.

Anya Taylor-Joy followed Janet Jackson’s marriage playbook and secretly married her partner, musician Malcolm McRae, in a Southern Gothic-inspired wedding in New Orleans on April 1, 2022.

The Mad Max: Furious The star confirmed her secret wedding on Instagram, sharing a few photos from the big day – with “anatomically correct heart cakes” and all.

“Two years ago on April 1st, I secretly married my best friend in New Orleans,” Taylor-Joy captioned her wedding post. “The magic of that day is forever etched into every cell of my being. Happy second (first) anniversary, my love… you are the coolest.”

Taylor-Joy included a picture of “bloody” heart-shaped cakes – like the organ, not a Valentine – and confirmed: “Yes, I am the vampire Lestat” – in reference to Anne Rice’s Interview with the vampirewhich also takes place in New Orleans.

The 27-year-old actress met McRae, a musician and actor who Daisy Jones and the Sixat the premiere of The Queen’s Gambit in March 2021, with McRae sharing a song he wrote about Taylor-Joy two days after they first met.

The couple made their romance public a year later at a party before the Oscars and, according to the known timeline, married secretly in New Orleans shortly thereafter.

However, conflicting reports claimed that McRae and Taylor-Joy married in July 2022 in an “intimate courthouse wedding,” according to Page Sixand, according to PEOPLE, a “staring” wedding in Venice in October 2023. So the April Fool’s joke was apparently at everyone’s expense.
